moparmagiclives Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) I've looked online , but haven't found any 69 road runners. Anyone know if it was ever kited? Still available? I would like to build one for a coworker who's husband has the real thing but probly won't get to restore it. Edited January 21, 2012 by moparmagiclives
Rob Hall Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Johan made one back in '69. Was reissued into the '80s. They appear on ebay occasionally.
my name is nobody Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The johan kit is a nice one. it can be built up pretty good. I built one a long, long, long time ago. and put the wrong year hood treatment on it, too. (I owned a '68, and was trying to replicate it....LOL.)
martinfan5 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 How much of a difference from the 68 to 69 ?
Rob Hall Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Minor trim differences...grille, taillights, side marker lights, hood scoops, etc. The AMT '68 is easy to find.
Eshaver Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The big change was in the hood graphics. In 69, they were stripes as opposed to a block in the middle of the hood . There was a minor change in the amount of openings in the grille . I'm providing you pictures of a 68........... http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=1968+plymouth+roadrunner+pictures&view=detail&id=672B2F2FA0F467EDC7C643931AA7C5F36FAF2955&first=0 Ed Shaver
Keef Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 im building one with the Johan body and using the AMT 69 GTX for the rest of it
Harry P. Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 How much of a difference from the 68 to 69 ? Different grilles, different taillights. Different enough that if you want to be accurate you can't fake a 69 with a 68 or vice versa. Do a google search and you'll see...
george 53 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Useing the AMT Mopar Chassis on the JoHan kit is the ONLY way to go. It lets the rest of the model shine as it should! The body is spot on on the Johan kit, but it's 69 design chassis is the pits. Useing the newer chassis brings it into the 21st century. Makes for a GREAT lookin model!
moparmagiclives Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Great info, thanks guys. I didn't even come across the 68 when I did a search. Hmm. ...
ChrisPflug Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Get the AMT Road Runner GTX as a chassis donor if you want bucket seats, the '68 Road Runner if you want a bench seat- the GTX also comes with a 440 engine and your choice of 4 or 6 barrel carburetion if you don't want to build a Hemi
Guest Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Sand the GTX emblems off the AMT 69 GTX. It was mostly trim diffrences anyway.
440 Dakota Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 if I remember right someone used to cast the 69 RR grill for use on the GTX kit,and the tail lights you could probably modify
ChrisPflug Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 The Johan body is a lot nicer- Vaughn Hart offers a Road Runner grille for the GTX kit
martinfan5 Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Thanks for the info on the difference , I am going to google it to see fo myself.
