Rob Hall Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Rob, you said you went to PIR last year, I was at the Feburay race, I was in between 1&2, in the middle, where did you sit?. It wont be the malibu, NASCAR said no to it, and what Chevy is saying the car they are going to use in not in production at the moment, thats the rumors that are going around. So time will tell. For the Feb race, I between turn 1 and turn 4, at the edge of 4.....for the Nov race, I was between 1&2 in about the middle....plan to probably sit there again for the March race... As far as the '13 Chevy race car, It will probably be the '14 Impala then...(or the rumored SS sedan). Edited January 24, 2012 by Rob Hall
Psychographic Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Martinfan5, Can you explain what it is you don't like about the COT? I've heard this as a major complaint a lot. I actually thought they looked better as to me they look more like the real cars without that sloping nose the old cars had.
Old Sprinter Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm like some of you here in that I just like racing. It doesn't matter at all if those cars are injected or have a carberator as to how good the race will be. If you have never been to a NASCAR race in person then give it a shot, it exciting and fun. I like Indy cars and sprints and midgets and Late Models and modifieds; all of it, as well as NASCAR.
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I did say i dont like it, but i am not bashing it, to me it just this big box on wheels, the only thing different was is the quater windows and the nose, now let explain a little more, I could not stand it when it first came out with the way the spilter was and with the wing, but I like the COT more now that it has the new lower nose piece and has the spoiler back. To me it was getting very close to spec racing. I VERY, VERY excited about how things are going to look for 2013, and i can not wait. I am pretty sure I will be at the march race , if so we will have to meet up at the track . I am not to sure it will be the Impala, like i said GM is saying its going to be a car that is not in production at the moment is what I am reading, either way GM is keeping it a very close secert .

Well, the Malibu and Impala seem like the only plausible models...and the next-generation Impala is not in production currently (the new '13 Malibu just started production recently). Basically, the NG Impala will be a LWB Epsilon II model like the LaCrosse (the '13 Malibu is a SWB Epsilon II model like the Insignia/Regal). However, there are persistent rumors online from GM insiders of a limited production 'SS' sedan coming--basically a revival of the Pontiac G8/Holden Commodore sedan (distinct from the LWB Caprice PPV). Draggon Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I like a lot of what David had to say. Get rid of the fake cautions, the green-white-checkers, top 35 guarateed, and have everyone treated the same. I guarantee you that Robby Gordon doesnt get treated like Jimmie-Jeffy-Denny-Junior. And I like Junior. End the stupid chase thing. Even the best have bad days or bad months, closing up the points just isnt racing. And that "seeding" thing based upon wins is a terrible idea. Get rid of the provisionals, if a previous champ or winner cant make the field, oh well. And do that short track qualifying-trophy dash-heats-main formula. Now THAT would make nascar exciting again! As far as "golden boys" thats been a rumour for many years. Like many others, I find some circumstances so suspicious that it does make one think.
A.R.C. Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 <p> Pretty sure he's kidding. Yes I was kidding, but facetiously kidding in reference to Richard Petty`s petty remark regarding Danica Patrick entering Nascar. He said Nascar is not a sport for women. Sounds like "King Richard" is way too stuck in the past. I`m not a fan of Nascar nowadays either (but I do dig that new Ford). I much prefer the 70`s and 80`s era. But just like the rest of the world you`ve got to keep pace with the times or you die. If Nascar was`nt developing new cars and expanding the sport they would only be watched by a handfull of cheap old codgers like us and no-one would be making a dime.....just like the old days. The irony of it is that the top speeds are`nt really much higher and they still cant get the cars to stay on the track any better....a flea down in the pits farts the entire feild goes sideways, upside down, end over end and it looks like little Johnny just spilled his bag of Skittles on the road. As much as I enjoyed my childhood of have dirtbomb fights, seeing how many of your friends you could jump over on your bicycle(helmet free)and living a life of no texting, video games, cell phones or reality shows, you have to progress with the rest of the world. Sadly, if you dont it will eat you alive. But the upside of progress is that were not stuck in our rooms building models alone with barely anyone to enjoy it with. Were now stuck in front of our Computer alone sharing it with the rest of the world Â
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 It could be the SS coming, I am not sure, I am can almost say for fact it wont be the Malibu. I agree that the top 35 rule needs to go, the fake cautions, I like having the race end under a green flag, but do we need three chances to make it happen, no, one is good. And the whole women in racing thing, Danica is a marketing tool being used by Go Daddy, she is not a true racer, i am not saying i dont want her in NASCAR, but i think she is going to have her butt handed to her in the cup series.
Gluhead Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I didn't read much of this thread. To me, there won't be much to this stuff until they have to turn left...AND right. A lot. In one lap. One of these races is a 2-3 hour commercial. That's about it. If you think otherwise, you're fooling yourself (and clearly, a lot of people in the states do exactly that). Sorry fans. You've been had.

Having watched her in Indy Car series for years, I tend to agree...more hype than substance w/ Danica as a driver IMO. One thing I'm still not sure if I like is the Chase.
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I am still in the middle for the chase, I will say after this year, it was really exciting having it go down to the last race to crown a champion, thats what the chase was to be all along , it only took eight years for it to happen
brad4321 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I hate the chase, the lucky dog rule, double wide restarts, the field being frozen with cautions. I don't mind the cars but I wish teams had more freedom to tweak and be innovative. I don't mind the top 35 rule either. Doing it otherwise would just force teams to put more effort into and spend more money for qualifying. And does it make sense for Nascar to have its stars not racing because of a parts failure on Friday? Bottom line is I love it and I watch every lap of every race. But the same thing is true about Formula 1 and NHRA and MotoGP. I just love to watch loud fast things race each other.
Harry P. Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 And the whole women in racing thing, Danica is a marketing tool being used by Go Daddy... And the other drivers aren't marketing tools? NASCAR is nothing more than a giant 3-hour commercial. Have you seen the cars and the driver's uniforms? Can they possibly find a bare square inch to squeeze another logo in?? I don't see any problem with Danica running in NASCAR. She's as "real" a race driver as any of the guys.

Tony only had a chance because Nascar gave him all the points back after 26 races. It's unfair and stupid. Of course, you're gonna get some exciting finishes if you reset the points. Why not just reset the points with one race to go? if close finishes is the goal?
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 No, she really is just a marketing tool, she always has been, and I am not the only one that feels that way, yes, in a way Harry you are right that it is just a long commerical, but Danica is not a racer , she drives a race car, there is a BIG difference. I know you dont like or stand racing, but take my word on it, she is not a racer.

And you are right, this is the first year that i could stand the chase, I think part of the reason the chase was made to give Jr. a chance to win a championship, thats why they made for 12 drivers a few years ago, because Jr didnt make the top 10. A playoff system does not really fit in racing
brad4321 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 No, she really is just a marketing tool, she always has been, and I am not the only one that feels that way, yes, in a way Harry you are right that it is just a long commerical, but Danica is not a racer , she drives a race car, there is a BIG difference. I know you dont like or stand racing, but take my word on it, she is not a racer. Look, Danica IS in over her head, but there are plenty of prettier girls who aren't racers. Give her some credit. She finished 4th in the Indy 500 and won a race and had some high point finishes - which is more success than most of us have had in our profession of choice. Lets keep a little perspective.

SuperStockAndy Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I don't see any problem with Danica running in NASCAR. She's as "real" a race driver as any of the guys. And she's hot! I must reveal my deep dark secret...my favorite driver is Jimmie Johnson...
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Guys, I never said she could not drive a race car, and I believe the race she one was a rain shorten fule milage race, all I am trying to say is she more marketing tool then driver, if Danica has the type of carrer in NASCAR that she did in Indy, she will be considered to be a back marker driver. I am not bashing on her, and going off her Indy car career, she really is not all that good of a driver. I never said I dont think she should be in NASCAR, I am just not drinking the Danica kool-aide, she needs to prove her self first in NASCAR. Do i want her to do good, yes, it will great for racing in general, but all I said is i think she is going to have butt handed to her, at least in her first season. There have been a lot of female drivers in NASCAR, but why is she getting all the love, why is being made to be the first ever women to race in NASCAR, one word, money, it buys everything NASCAR. Shawan Robionson was the last female to race in the cup sereis, then you have Jennifer Jo Cobb that runs in the Nationwide sereis, why is there no love for her?, why, because they dont have the millions of dollars from a big company paying for her to be in NASCAR, who do you think is paying for Danica to be in NASCAR?, Go Daddy is, if it was not for Go Daddy, I highly doubt she would be coming to NASCAR or be racing period. Harry P. Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 You might want to hold off on your critique of her performance until there's actually a performance to critique... And what about all the guys who have never (or rarely) won? Kick them out because they're not "real" racers?
brad4321 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm saying she is a helluva driver. But I'm also saying she doesnt yet deserve to be in Nascar. Do her looks help her? Absolutely! But you still have to be able to drive your butt off to make it as far as she has. Having attempted to play a sport professionally I can attest to its difficulty. The worst of the guys you see in the big leagues are the top 1 tenth of 1 percent of everyone else.

Harry, she has been racing in NASCAR, so thats why I am saying I dont think she is going to be good in the cup series I hope she does good in NASCAR, but I am going off her runs in the Nationwide Series the past few years and she has not done very well. And the cup series is a lot tougher then the Nationwide sereis and thats what I am basing my critique of off. Edited January 24, 2012 by martinfan5
