SFC_Allen Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Not really sure why i started 2 at a time but hey seems to be going ok right now. The Impala kits are easy to work with and i have decal sets that go perfect on them. Not really sure if i need to clearcoat then wetsand the Impala before i lay on the black. Any pointers??? The Monaco was wetsanded and it looked dull to me so i sprayed 2 more coats on top and it seems to look pretty good to me now. Still have to figure out where to buy the 3m polishing stuff and scratch X. Will post more as i get through it. VR Earle
martinfan5 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Looking good, have you checked any auto parts stores, they should carry it
SFC_Allen Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Thanks, found the scratch X along with biege for the monaco interior. They didn't have anything by 3 m though. VR Earle
SFC_Allen Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Started the Gl Blk, was having issues but i nugged through it and hopefully these will turn out fine and i can clear coat them. Made the small antenna (that you can barely see on mat) for the Tx DSP car. Started the interior for the FSP, kaki brown, so i hope it looks good. I couldn't find no real good pics with the interior for this or the Tx DSP.
Agent G Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Back in that era Chrysler Corp. didn't offer too many colors for interiors. The FHP car should be just fine with some form of tan/khaki/beige interior. That model of Impala also had limited interior colors. All I ever drove were blue, but we drove all white cars. I believe tan was available as was a medium gray. You can't go wrong with any of them. G
SFC_Allen Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Thanks never really knew that, i was thinking of flat blk for the Tx DSP. Might go well with it Earle
SFC_Allen Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Well, seems as if the paint did't come out to bad. Just need to clearcoat then decal. The work the interior some more. Might try and mess with the engine but not really sure how to do that yet....maybe this is my learning model VR Earle
SFC_Allen Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 Oh and i need to figure out how to use bare metal foil. All of the window trim needs that also. Thinking i'll pratice on one of my crown vics first.
Agent G Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Do the Texas DPS interior in a dark charcoal gray. You won't loose the detail, black will just swallow it up and look way too bare. G
niteowl7710 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) TX DPS Impalas (of which there were only a handful) had tan interiors. If you put a blue (or God forbid black) interior in state where the temperature parks at, and stays over 100 for the majority of the summer the car and trooper will spontaneously combust! martinfan5 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Phoenix Pd has had dark interiors in there crusiers , and we know how hot it gets here, but they also run dark tint too
niteowl7710 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Phoenix Pd has had dark interiors in there crusiers , and we know how hot it gets here, but they also run dark tint too AZ DPS has, or at least had tan interiors.
martinfan5 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 AZ DPS has, or at least had tan interiors. They havent for awhile now, I want to say that almost all the crusier have a light grey interior, they may have darker color interiors in other parts of the state, meaning northern AZ. Do you know what years DPS ran tan, was it 70's/80's ?
niteowl7710 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Looking at my photos closer you're right that is a light gray, not beige. Still isn't the dark blue that's standard. I also think the difference between city cars and the state cars (both in Az, as well as Texas & FLA) is that the troopers are going to be on their squads for quite a longer duration, and there's no shade to speak of on the median of I-8. Back to the more recent question, yes they were tan/beige in those years as evidenced by this '81 Gran Fury
SFC_Allen Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Guys, now I'm really stuck on the interior. I'm thinking the dark grey might work better. Just because I'm going with tan for th fhp.
