moparmagiclives
I'm wondering how many people glue down the body when they finish buiding something. Do any shows or contests ask for the tub to be pulled out for inspection? I see alot of pics on here of the interior tub up close, is that taken before its all glued together or are they left to be removed for viewing? Scale-Master
I have never heard of a judge asking someone to dis-assemble a model for judging. It is judged as a finished unit. Photos of interiors are usually taken before final installation.
Jordan White
I've always glued mine together, especially since in many cases it would be tough to even attempt to take the thing apart!
SuperStockAndy
I never glue them.
LAone
most of the kits i have finished dont need any glue to hold the body to the chassis. the revell 510 im about to finish might need it. but ill use bit of blu tack instead of glue. this way if i choose to change out the wheels, i wont damage the body or chassis. Scale-Master
Maybe an additional aspect of that original question is how many consider their builds finished and leave them alone once done, and how many raid parts from or rework their "finished" models? For me, once it is done, it is done. No raiding, no reworking, unless it gets damaged... I button them up for good, but as mentioned, if the chassis is engineered to fit without cement, no need to use it.
LoneWolf15
Nope , My cars travel too much for that , I can always take a car apart and repair any damage due to whatever mishap might occur . Can't do that if the body is glued to the frame . Judges shouldn't be handling cars at the shows in any way , shape , or form ! Wait for it , wait for it , here comes the firestorm !!! Lol ! If you use 5 minute epoxy for your builds, you'll eliminate most needs for repairs. I know that the epoxy is expensive and there is waste, but I never take a repair kit with me anymore to shows, club meetings, NNL's, etc.. martinfan5
I do on some, if the body and chassis dont have a tight fit, then I will.
scalenut
I had to on my amt camaro , the combined warpage required some clamps and epoxy just to get all 4 wheels to touch.
philo426
most of the time the body fits tightly to the chassis so no glue is necessary.Sometimes ,(mostly on scratch builts) 2-part epoxy is required.
Old Sprinter
Since I scratch build all my junk, I usually attach the body with screws so it could be removed, but I have yet to pull one off. Take pictures of the chassis before you button it up and always make the motor easy to get at. Ken
Mercman
I glue mine, and also the wheels so it don't roll off the shelf. A judge at one contest always complained about not having rolling wheels I told him the emergency brake was set. Finally one year I added a emer. brake in the on position. jaydar
I do so all the time. It is usually needed to make sit right. Perhaps if i were better, vthat would not be necessary. Maybe some day!
crazyjim
I always glue the livin' heck out of them. Nothing like Testors in the tube to put out lots and lots of glue.
LoneWolf15
If you use 5 minute epoxy for your builds, you'll eliminate most needs for repairs. I know that the epoxy is expensive and there is waste, but I never take a repair kit with me anymore to shows, club meetings, NNL's, etc.. If I were to take one of your models and one of mine , hold them at the same height and then drop them onto a show table , there would be similar and dissimilar results . First off , you would want to choke me , as I would you , were you to do this to one of my cars ! Similar , correct ? Lol ! Second , both cars would be lying in pieces on the table , once again , similar results ! Third , which is dissimilar , my parts would only break at the glue joints and would be quite repairable . Yours , on the otherhand , would break at the weakest point of the plastic , rendering quite a few of the parts to be beyond redemption . Sick as it may sound , I literally tried this as an experiment . Hence , the reason I only use Plastizap for overall constuction and Plastruct for the installation of my glass parts . I have also found that 5 minute epoxy has a tendency to yellow over time . I only use it on occasion , mostly for my gauge faces or a stubborn part that has a bit of warpage to it . As I always say , " To each there own " . Just one man's opinion !
Tony T
Yes, I glue the body to the chassis and when it is done...it is done. Edited February 1, 2012 by Tony T
Steven Zimmerman
I design all my builds so the frame or floor panel is retained by plastic channels, and usually 'snaps' into place. My hoods are usually held down by miniature magnets recessed into the body, with small pieces of steel pin countersunk into the hood....works fer me...'Z'
car-man666
i glued them ,but sligthly, just un case, and i use elmers for the body and the frame, i think it's easer to thears apart when the need for repair is needed
