Stephen H Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I was wondering where most of you guys get your engines if you are not using the engine from the kit you are working with? DO you get them from other kits or can you buy engines for 1/25 cars? Thanks in advance for any and all info
SuperStockAndy Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Ross Gibson has some nice drag racing engines as well as a few stock engines.
Ramfins59 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I think most of us will just rob an engine from another kit for the project we're working on at the moment. Of course that causes some problems when you finally decide that you want to build the kit that you robbed the engine from... In which case you continue the sequence and rob another engine from another kit... Or, as mentioned above, you can get a resin engine from Ross Gibson or other aftermarket suppliers.
BKcustoms Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I frequently use Revell Corvette kits for motors in my pro touring projects.
Bartster Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Ditto what wheelman said. One of my favorite sources is Freds Model Car World. I just received 4 builtups, purchased solely for parts. Usually $2-$4 parts. Newts Boneyard is also a great source. Hope this helps.
my name is nobody Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I can only speak for myself, but can honestly say that after more than four decades of building, my parts boxes are full of some pretty cool engines & parts . Have not purchased any 'Ross Gibson' engines, as I cant justify spending as much for one engine as I spend on one modelkit. When I was just getting started in modelcar building, I would buy AMT 3-N-1 kits, because they were usually loaded with extra parts. flea markets, yard sales and that kind of stuff were always good for some parts, too.
Stephen H Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Cool thanks all for the info. I do have a few cars that I will prolly never build that I can do some robbing from.
Jordan White Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I do this a lot, and do purchase kits simply for engines. I'll also take engines from older built kits if I don't care for the kits too much.
Eshaver Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Hey, go to a model show and just purchace built and unbuilt engines and parts from the kit vendors . You're in North Carolina . They have some terrific shows there . I wish I was living there now as it wouldn't cost me so much to come from Virginia to them .......... Ed Shaver Edited February 2, 2012 by Eshaver
Stephen H Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Cool thanks guys. Ed I would love to go to some shows. Didnt realize we had them close by.
Casey Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 The Swap/Trade section here on the forum is another great place to find engines.
diymirage Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 there are several kits out there with more then one complete engine several of the revell fords and my favorite, the modified stockers 53 ford nhauler
Stephen H Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 I will have to give the trade section a shot and the Fords. Do you know of any Chevy and Mopar kits with multiple engines? Thanks all

There is a swap meet coming up on February 18 in Salisbury NC. This is a great show to find some kits and there usually is a resin vendor or two there as well.
