W-409 Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) Hello From Finland!!! I'm not so crazy about the weather right now... We have half meters of snow here, and this week it has bee really cold. The coldest day of this winter so far, it was -36 Celsius degrees (that's -32.8 Fahrenheits). Today it was bit warmer, only 1,4 Fahrenheits but it has been snowing all day, and now we have about 8 inches of snow, maybe more. All of the roads and streets are covered by ice, Trucks and Buses don't have winter tires, they are running with same tires, as in summer. So they got stuck everywhere, today, in one uphill, there were FIVE trucks, all of them were stuck. And later, one Truck was stuck too, it wasn't even uphill, but anyway, it was there. Tractor was pushing it from the back to get Truck moving, but it looked like tractor had no chance to get that Truck moving. There are lots of accidents too, and because of them, and those trucks and buses, nobody can't move, there are Huge highway jams everywhere... So, because of that, can't go buying MR. Muscle, to remove paint. Hopefully tomorrow it's better day. It's quite slippery to walk too, with Longhorn Boots of course. Some of you guys may be used to this, but those who live in the south, it's maybe not so typical. Edited February 3, 2012 by W-409
crazyjim Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Stay home and be warm and safe, Niko. I've never been to your country, but I just imagine Finland as covered in snow and cold weather all year long. Brrrrrrr - you gave me a chill with that weather report.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Stay home, safe, and build more eye candy for us! Hope you are well and thriving, Niko.
W-409 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 Huh, just came in, I was shoveling the snow. Here are few pictures, taken right after I finished shoveling the snow. I've never been to your country, but I just imagine Finland as covered in snow and cold weather all year long. Brrrrrrr - you gave me a chill with that weather report. Haha, it's not cold all year long here, in the summer the sun stays up almost every time during the night time, and we have about +20-+30 Celsiusdegrees (about 68-86 Fahrenheits), and we do drive DragRacing in the summer. But in the winter it is cold, yeah. It was really nice to be in Orlando last February. The change between summer and winter, is quite big here. And yes, I will be building models, when it's that cold. Stay tuned for updates with that Kenworth W900.
crazyjim Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Whoee. I'm glad I'm in Florida. You can have that cold and snow.
Harry P. Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Hello From Finland!!! Trucks and Buses don't have winter tires, they are running with same tires, as in summer. So they got stuck everywhere, You'd think that in a country with severe winters like Finland, they would all use winter tires! Why in the world don't they??? And I have news that will make your weather not seem so bad... Denver is supposed to get TWO FEET of snow today/tomorrow.
crazyjim Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I bet my brother-in-law is enjoying the CO weather. He's over in Afghanistan right now.
Foxer Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I've been to Sweden, but not Finland. Being in New England I know what you're talking about even though this is becoming a mild winter. We had 24" in October but hardly anything since. People here don't use snow tires much .. they think all season tires are all they need. I just watch .. and avoid .. then slide around. I was surprised to see you mention that the truck sdon't have snow tires. I asked the UPS guy why he walked up my steep driveway when delivering and he said they don't snow tires on their trucks for winter. I guess it's just the typical money thing .. let the insurance pay fo rthe crashes.
wgflatliner Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) Denver was already at a foot as of this morning and is supposed to get more over night. I'm 45 minutes south of denver and it's just overcast. I was hoping for a snow day today. Niko, it looks like you got a dusting! Over here some people will keep studded tires on all year long. Harry P. Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 And welcome to the board! Actually he's been a member here for over two years!
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 You'd think that in a country with severe winters like Finland, they would all use winter tires! Why in the world don't they??? And I have news that will make your weather not seem so bad... Denver is supposed to get TWO FEET of snow today/tomorrow. That's really good question! I've been thinking about that too, but maybe it's just like Mike said, let the insurance pay from the crashes... Great to hear, that there might be lots of snow, then I'm not the only one with this problem. I guess, snow powls have busy time then... Haha, I was suprised to see some Finnish language on this topic. Yeah, I've been here for a while, and I'm going to stay.
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Winter tires? I heard that Finland had eliminated their drunk driving problem by banning cars and insisting everyone travel to work by cross country skiing. It makes reading the paper on the way to work a real bear...but it guarantees at least six gold medals at the next winter olympics! ! If some Finnish sport men or women wins, it's possible, that there's some Doping taken before the competition. Actually our sport men or women are not winning this year, I guess, maybe better luck next time.
