Just picked up a few of the Steve Kinser sprint cars. Nice re-issue of the earlier series of sprint cars with new decals and no name tires. Decals look great but will have to make some updates on the body panels to bring it up to date. Out of the five I bought, four of the kits had badly warped right side nerf bars (item# 167), I'll contact Revell for some replacements.

Overall the kit looks great, and if memory serves me right, they go together pretty nice and look great when finished.

Thanks go out to Revell for reissuing these cars.

Does anyone out there know of any aftermarket suppliers of sprint car decals. I tried Sprint Graphix on the Three Amigo's website, but they don't offer dacals any more.

I would appreciate any information.

Great idea, I've dealt with them in the past, and have been very happy with thier service. I did'nt even think about them this time.

Thanks !!!!

Ronnie at SMH is a great guy to deal with, and its very sad to see Slixx closing its doors, they will be missed

Patto place is another place to get sprint car decals too, (I think)

Thanks for the help guys. I found out about Slixx this past Saturday. It's just like losing a family member, they were great for the hobby and will be missed.

First off, this car represents Kinsers car from around 2009-2010 season. Unfortunately, even though it's great that Revell decided to reissue their last updated kit from a few years back, it falls short in a few areas for doing a modern Sprint car. The chassis are much different toady as well as the tail section being much smaller than what comes in the kit. There are options for the more ambitious builder to update the kit but will take plenty of work to do so. dirtmodeler.com has plenty of aftermarket parts to update these kits. And if you go to the link below you will find some decal makers that are still venturing into the modern stuff since Sprint Graphix went away.

If I'am not mistaken this Kinser car is a Gambler chassis car as in the other sprinters that were released years ago. He now runs a Maxim chassis which is different but you would have to get a chassis expert to know what to look for. Maxim is a down tube car but I can't remember if the older ones were. Tubes running from the top of the cage to the front of the chassis. Check out Hoseheads.com to see pictures of todays buggies. They are all much the same now a days with little things different. It build up into a fantastic looking model. You will enjoy building it up.

IIRC, Monogram issued a sprint car back in the '80s, reissued a few times into the '90s in different liveries...I assume this is based on those kits (w/ some changes maybe)?

If anyone is interested in other options for cars to build try this website www.scalesprints.com Joe does the art work and subs out the printing. There are options for both non wing and wing cars. I am working with a resin caster to see if we can get some more accurate up to date parts out there. The chassis are relatively the same with some of the bracing located in different areas. Thase guys as well as my self should be able to answer just about any sprint car questions for you.

These chassis are really quite easy to update into a "reasonable" rendition of a newer car, but it will take quite a bit of extra underhood work to update the engine & it's associated pieces into a modern car. This version is of Steve's 2010-2011 version car, he still drove his own car in 2009. with very little work the tail tank from one of the Kurtis midget kits can be made into a fair, but closer version of a modern tail.

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS!

If you have ever seen on of the older releases of a Steve Kinser car, just put that picture in your mind, & add the graphics for the Bass Pro Shops version to it nothing new here but decals & no name tires (now that the Goodyears are right again, they are gone, but you can sub some from any of the other kits)..

i was following this thread hoping for some pics and since my example arrived today I have snapped some shots of the trees. Vernon stated 4 of his examples had a warped nerf bar, item #167 and my example is the same.

Other than the nerf bar issue its a nice kit. Everything cleanly moulded with no flash. Excellent tires though they don't have any markings. A very nice decal sheet too with everything well printed

and in perfect register. Looks like it will build up into a nice replica even though it may not be 100% accurate.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted Revell about the nerf bar issue, and as usual Revell was very helpful. I returned the defective parts and they will send the replacements as soon as they have them in stock. This was no problem for me as they are one of the last parts to go on the car.

At any rate the kits are a little outdated, but still build up to look great with a little work.

My thanks go out to Revell for bringing back these great kits and being so helpful when there is an issue.
