I am just wondering, were they all issued in this box?

I have seen two in this style box. It is completely blank on all sides, but has the stick-on label shown in the photo on one side. None of the truck modelers in my area have ever seen this box- was it a special edition, or something like that?

Chuck; I have seen those kits boxed that way as well; I would guess maybe SSP release; or intended for scale train market...that's where i saw those boxes; at a train shop..............Matt

It look like it was reboxed, and a part of the instruction sheet was glued to the box so the owner knew what was inside. That's what it looks like to me, anyway.

That was a very early private issue kit. Much like Model King today it was a run made for a company who paid for a run. The company name I can't remember right now but it was a model train distributor that specialized in 'G' scale trains....which are 1/24 or near depending on manufacture. IIRC it took the company a few years to sell all of them as their ad in the model train magazines ran for a while. As far as value I don't see it being any more than a regular Monogram issue..... The reason for the plain box is Monogram would sell kits 'bagged' cheaper than custom printing a box plus I have seen boxes with addresses and postage on the box top so they may have shipped them in these boxes too.

I have a couple of these up on the shelves and they came in a different box, probably later issues than the one you have, Chuck. It's still a great kit with lots of potential for doing some neat stuff, as is evident in this picture above.

The new tires and wheels look great on that mack! Are they from the ford louisville?

I WANT to say they're from an AMT Kenworth T600, but I don't remember for sure. Chassis/drivetrain is Ford F-350.

Chuck,

You might find this interesting, it makes for good reading

Thanks for that link! I've seen the completed trucks and read the storyline behind them, but this is the first time I've seen any in-progress photos of them. Very cool!

And thanks to everybody for helping ID the kit. Jim- I kind of thought that someone had glued part of the instructions to a plain box, but it appeared to be a special-made sticker- it was sort of glossy on the exposed side, and there was no printing on the back side of the label. The kit did include a full instruction sheet. It showed Texaco markings in the illustrations, but the kit had no decals (at least, mine didn't).

Dave is correct. They were privately released by "Depot G". The particular box that I have contains both the tanker and stake body trucks.

On a side note, I have been looking for someone who may have one of the Yat Ming 1/24 Maxim Fire Engines. The wheels/tires from that could be cast and would be perfect for a conversion such as this:

The wooden spoke wheels certainly give the AC Bulldog a different appearance.

Depot G offered 3 Mack AC kits: the tanker, the stake, and a double kit containing both. The ones I purchased were the very first ones, and didn't have any labels on them, just the kit contents stamped on the end of the heavy duty cardboard boxes. The boxes were taped shut and mailed out that way. I bougth more than one of each, so the cardboard boxes were taped togehter and shipped out that way. The feature of these kits that I liked was that the were molded in white plastic instead of the red and yellow Monogram moulded their versions.
