ismaelg Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 A Revell C6-R Corvette story without any written text

ismaelg Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Here is the explanation in case the pics sequence is not clear enough. I'm building the Revell C6-R racing Corvette. However, the kit represents the car as it was unveiled back in 2005. I want to replicate the car as I saw it racing in Atlanta back in October 2006. Some body mods are needed. First, the cooling ducts are part of the bodywork, but the kit has them separate. So I cut and blended them in place. Then the spoiler support is different as well as its location. That was also changed. Some more minor bodywork is needed before having it ready for color... Thanks,
935k3 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Good job, I am glad to see you molded in the Naca Ducts, every build I have seen so far doesn't. One area I wish I would of fixed on mine is the exhaust sheild should be rectangular and not tear-dropped shaped. You are exactly right , built out of box it's the presentation version. I had to make the Klein Tools decals that's on all race pictures I found at Corvetteracing.com. I had to add plastic to the doors and hood to fix the gaps and get a better fit. And I am sure you noticed the front wheel alignment problems and ride height needed adjusted. Tow hooks are also missing and most races a wiper was attached to the car.
ismaelg Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Dale, yours is absolutely spectacular! I hope mine can get close to yours. Here is a bit more progress: Interestingly, the other side is not as bad....... See you next week! Thanks,
Zoom Zoom Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Looking good so far, and Dale's model is spectacular. Anyone have ideas for making the side glass that's also missing? The Revell kit is kind of like a paint-by-numbers kit, a nice start but they forgot half the paint   The Revell AG "LeMans winner" variant is out, the only change to the kit is the decals. None of the other issues has been addressed whatsoever, and the wheels are completely incorrect. SMS has the wheels, but no side glass.
935k3 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Thanks for the compliments and to answer Bob I couldn't figure out how do the sideglass(that cutout towards the back) and that's why I did the ALMS version instead of the Lemans version.
ismaelg Posted June 11, 2007 Author Posted June 11, 2007 The other side had the same work done to reduce the gap at the top front of the door: Like Bill Geary would say: "Ahhhhhh That looks much better now..." Thanks,
Peter Lombardo Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I know I am a little late with this, but you did a first rate job on your story about the 3 Corvettes. I enjoyed it very much. You sure love those things. I tend to build with as many options as I can throw in, since I am not paying for them. I was impressed with the fact that you are aware of the options and build a specific car with specific options. Keep the articles coming.

I'm working on a few more. Yes, I'm very passionate about it Thanks,
simonr Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Jmmmm, it looks like thi one will be another immpresive build!...Like at the movies.....seat and relax! Simon Rivera
ismaelg Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 I don't think I showed this before. The first body mod was to get rid on the molded grille. That tooth near the center is gone now. Wrapping up the body mods, the hood was also enlarged to fit snugly. Instead of adding material to one side, I added thin strips on both sides to keep it centered. It fits much better now. Notice that the molded hood pins are no longer there. I think we are getting closer to final block sanding and painting!!!!! WOHOO!! Thanks,
Enzoenvy1 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Wow, I forgot that you had this thread going. I just started my C6-R for my LeMans build this Saturday. As I was looking up material I noticed so many things wrong with the Revell build. My first step was to remove the front grille area and the rear license plate grille also. You will not believe this, but I killed the same grille slats in the front that you did!!! I would post a pic, but I can't until after the race. But at least I felt better after i did it now, lol. Great build so far! I also noticed that the press release car had like 5 diffusers on the rear wheras the LeMans/ALMS cars had 15!!! Last night I removed all of the factory ones and cut 15 new ones to be added.
ismaelg Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 Hello, Last body modification before considering color. Yeah, I said that 10 body mods ago The car as it raced in Petit LeMans had no door handle, just a grab. This is not how the door fits. Just testing for interference. After primer... One more check against reference and I think I'm ready for color... Whew! It has already gone thru a complete can of T235 and part of another one!!! But it's worth it.... Thanks,
ismaelg Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Difusser is pretty much done... Note the slats are not all equally spaced. The farther away from the center the closer they get. Also, the two ends are thicker than the rest. A lot of time was spent measuring and calculating If only I could find some of that Scale Aerosol Paints Carbon Fiber paint as seen on MCM back in April!!! Thanks,
ismaelg Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 We are finally seeing some color! After months of bodywork, getting some color on seemed easy Are these updates useful? or would you rather just wait for the finished product? Thanks,
Enzoenvy1 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 The diffusers look great Ismael. Looking back I might have made a "plate" to add the diffusers to. Who knows, mine worked out. Even though I built one, please keep the updates coming. It is always good to see what others do to the same model you built. I keep coming back.
ismaelg Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 first 2 coats of clear..... A few more coats of clear and it is off to a beauty nap while I'm out of town for at least 2 weeks. Thanks,
Ken Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Looking great Izzy!!! Keep up with the updates as well. They make great references for those of us who are waiting on starting ours
Enzoenvy1 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 One thing you will ned to know: when you do final fitment the hood will hit the bottom of the radiator. I had to sand down the intake face after I painted it. You wont see it unless you take the hood off, but it will not fit snug.
