ChrisPflug Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Missing link also offers a resin Ford engine compartment for just a couple bucks
mrmike Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 This is going to be an interesting project to watch, Dirk. I like where you are going with it and look forward to more progress. Keep up the good work!
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks for the kind words guys Playing with the engine. Not sure if I'm going to use the riser pictured. I wanted a blower but none of the ones I have fit the motor correctly. Thanks for looking. Till next time.
62rebel Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 blower manifolds for FE's and SOHC's aren't common.... i have one, fairly new, but i can't remember what kit it came out of. i don't know if i have the blower that goes on it, either.
diymirage Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 looks like yer chugging along allright here is a paint suggestion for you (i wanna say its called sunburst yellow) i picked up a can of it at wallyworld for 3.50 or so (was a huge can too) anyway, i thought the paint looked like what you need, here it is over grey primer
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Missing link also offers a resin Ford engine compartment for just a couple bucks do you have a link to their website?
otherunicorn Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I used this kit you have to build a Max Falcon....I'll try and get some pics today and post. BTW... I used the same hood on my Max Falcon too... even though my "Falcon" is really a Camaro.
otherunicorn Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 The Parts Box in Australia are about to release the XB Falcon 4 door in resin I can never get their web site to work. I wish they would get it coded properly.
martinfan5 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I can never get their web site to work. I wish they would get it coded properly. Same here
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 I used the same hood on my Max Falcon too... even though my "Falcon" is really a Camaro. Nice build and the background is perfect for this car. Thanks for sharing
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Work continued on the 73 this week. My son had a sleep over one night this weekend and I had a bunch of computer work to address so I couldn't get as much done as I had hopped. Something is better then nothing I guess. :armata_PDT_03: I turned my attention to the interior and the seats. As I had commented on earlier there is almost nothing Mustang in this kit and the interior is no different. When installing the seats I came across another issue. The seats sat in a reclined position. It reminded me of season one of Star Trek the next Generation and the navigation seats on the bridge. There is no way anyone could be expected to sit and drive this car in that reclined position. In the photo below the driver seat is fixed and the one i'm holding is the kits idea of good. To fix this I just took some Evergreen stock and glued it to the rear of the seat, painted it black and glued it in place. Both seats fixed. Much better if you ask me Next I returned to the Evergreen stock and found another useful piece. This I used to fill the back of the guages I drilled out last week.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 More interior work done. I didn't go crazy by installing carpet or detailing the non-existent door skins and such as the sleek contour of the roof-line won't allow you to see anything anyway. The roll bar was installed Sitting here like this everything looks out of proportion but when I placed the interior into the body it actually look ok. Rear suspension installed minus the shocks and other important things such as the front steering linkage. The modified 351 Cleveland engine put in place
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) Now it time for the fun part. Time to add some color... Yellow was the first color to be added After the yellow dried a mask was applied and the next color was applied. Model Masters Signal Red. After that dried I applied another mask and sprayed Testors Dark Blue Tomorrow we'll have the reveal Thanks for taking the time to look at my work. Edited February 22, 2012 by Dirkpitt289
kruleworld Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) Planet X also makes the XB Falcon Coupe in Resin or at least did. They popup on EvilBay every now and again but they can rocket up in price. Maybe someday I'll stumble across an affordable one. Heck I finally got my hands on Max's Interceptor so I guess anything can happen. Forget the planetx falcons. they are nowhere near accurate, nor detailed. both of which i expected from a 120 dollar kit. your mustang is going nicely. i've seen some done in black, but never as the MFP interceptor (mostly because it's supposed to be a four door sedan). i did my eleanor from this kit, using stock parts from the revell 69 mustang. i did this because i needed racing parts for the 69 and stock for the 73, so i swapped them. martinfan5 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Looking forward to see how the paint job comes out
1zebra3 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Sorry, Dirkpitt289 I may be wrong but the engine that you are using looks like a 390 or 428.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 your mustang is going nicely. Thank you for the kind words. i've seen some done in black, but never as the MFP interceptor (mostly because it's supposed to be a four door sedan). I'm not sure what that means. All the cars in the first movie from the black Holden (Stolen by the Night Rider) to the yellow, red, blue Falcon sedan, the yellow, red, blue Coupe (Max's 1st ride) to Max's famous blown XB Falcon they were ALL MFP vehicles no matter the color or the number of doors.. You can see the MFP logo/ Badge on the rear quarter of the 2 door Holden interceptor Here Max and his good buddy Goose pose in front of Max's 4 Door MFP Interceptor. Then as we all know later on in the move Max received the Falcon XB Coupe 2 door Interceptor. You can see the MFP logo/ badge on the front fender behind the front wheel. And of course there was The Boppers Falcon Pursuit vehicle (No decent photo) which drove through the motor home. That was also a 4 door car. I guess what I'm getting at is there is no hard fast rule to what color, or number of doors makes a car an interceptor. Especially in the world of movies and fiction. Even in the real world you can go into almost any police station parking lot and you will see many cruisers in many shapes, sizes, colors, engines, door combinations etc... The only rule is to use whatever you can for the task at hand.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 The unmasking has begun Thanks for looking
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I don't have any photos ready just yet but last night was spent remasking the body to repair some red over spray that made its way onto the yellow. Also painted the rims, rear wing and some other bits blue. A second cote will be required tonight. Photos to follow
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks for the kind words guys. The body has received 5 cotes of clear and just because this is rather unknown waters to me I'm letting it dry before I touch it again. Before I clear coted it I had to re-mask and do some touch ups on the yellow on the driver side front fender I also applied the white stripe between the red and blue colors. I'm happy with the finish I also painted some of the odds and ends like the rims and the rear panel I decided to use the generic grill and rear deck panels so that I had the good 73 bits should I decided to go back and try to build the original 73 Eleanor again but this time using the 71 Mustang kit. Wheels assembled Thanks for looking
Dr. Cranky Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Dirk, great masking, wonderful results. Love the colors. You are making killer progress.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks Doc. Means a lot coming from you
