That's pretty drastic. I have never seen anything like that. I thought it funny at first, but now I just hope you weren't depending on them heavily.

You sure you didn't get those off of different scale vehicles?

At first. that is what I was thinking to! LOL

Okay, Chuck, stop zapping the tires with your enlarge ray gun an then saying the other little tire shrunk.

What monster truck kit are they from?

I have no idea what happened. I'm not sure if they are AMT or repops from the Orange Blossom puller truck kit, but I had them in mind for a particular project. When I went and got them out of the container ( I keep my loose tires in clear plastic bins for fishing lures), I IMMEDIATELY noticed the discrepancy! The larger one still fits the Orange Blossom rear wheels, but the one that shrunk is hopeless... it might make a decent 1:32 tire now.

no, he's got a valid concern. most of my stash of old MPC solid vinyl Goodyears are hard as rocks and a little too small to fit ANY wheels easily. so are my Suburbanite mud-snow tires.... hard as rock and shrinking.

Ive had that happen as well. One set on a build shrunk so badly they split around the rim. I've also had hollow tires collapse over the years. Some looked melted, some just looked like they went flat.

Now that is a possibility ! The plastic of the lure boxes does not play well with some of the lures and their physical properties

. I've had some of the skirts on my spinner baits melt and turn to jelly if they've been left in the box for an extended period of time.

If they were for a dirt track car, you'd have "stagger"!

I know! I checked some of my dirt track tires... no such luck there.

None of the other tires in the tackle boxes appear to be affected, and some of them have been in there for several years.

I've ruined many of my rubber worms and spinner baits to that same issue.

Chuck, I've never seen anything that drastic before but all I can think about is the model sitting near a heat source . . . I've stumbled up imperfections in tires, but nothing like that.

You know...

It actually is funny. If you wouldn't need those tyres for a project, you'd find it funny too.

Too bad I don't have the kit, otherwise I'd happily help you out.

I think that's the problem.I used to use them about 10 years ago.One day I noticed some stuff was melted into the case, some other cases were fine.I think its a chemical reaction of the different plastics

The problem is "outgassing" common to some types of relatively unstable plastics. That's what causes the warping in old promos that were made from acetate plastics. They're shrinking unevenly. It also affects many older guitars. The bindings and pickguards will shrink and ultimately need to be replaced.

Also some plastics will attack each other. It's been called "Revell Tire Syndrome" but it wasn't unique to Revell. They just had an especially bad case of it. The vinyl tires would slowly dissolve the wheels - I have a few examples. The model companies seem to have solved the problem over the years.
