Romell R Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Hey fellas I just noticed theres really nowhere to get 1/16 scale carbs or maybe I just dont know where to look. Im starting to get supplys for my next build (which will be a 1/16th ProMod on the bottle) so I need carbs preferably Holley or Demon Double pumps. does anyone know where to get some or will I be forced to scratch build some? Dont make me do it.......you know I'll do it!!
Mooneyzs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Hey Rom... I thought I saw that Charlie at Pro Tech is looking into doing some 1/16th scale carbs I think they are in the works but not done yet. I may have seen it on his website saying coming soon. But you are right that we do need a source for these. if I had some half way decent pics of them and some pretty good dimensions I could draw one up in a 3D model and have TDR/Shapeways run them on their rapid prototype machine.
Romell R Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 hey Chris i could probably send you some info on my 1:1 demon carbs from my HotRod I'll look and see if I still have the spec books
comp1839 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 F.Y.I. as soon as i get caught up with this dragster. i plan on doing a dominator style carb and the braswell 2 barrel that is currently the most popular carb on the large pro mod engines. obviously tim and TDR will be handling it.
Mooneyzs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Rom sounds great but sounds like Dave is already on it. Dave you are awesome man. I will have to wait for those for sure. I picked up one of the rear end members that you gave details for TDR to draw up and man it is very nice. Thank you in advance for being willing to get the details to TDR and making them avaliable to us.
Pro Tech Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Rom, here's the ones I have in 1/16. I only have a few of ea. at this time. If interested send me an email. Charlie Pro Tech protech_modelproducts@yahoo.com
Romell R Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Hey Dave Im definately gonna have to get a coulpe sets of those carbs both styles, just keep me up on when they will be ready for purchase.
Mooneyzs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Charlie... those are awesome. may I ask Cost on them and how many do you have in stock. also when would you have more avaliable? I know i am ibterested in a couple of each. pluss i need to make a list and order some parts from you.

I will have 200 of ea. but not for another 6 -8 weeks. Thanks, Charlie
baddgass Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 These are the ones i got in a engine kit BBC 1/16 from Resin Motor Replicas.
comp1839 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 i'm working as fast as i can on the carb. the process involved is......... i do hand drawings and turn them over to tim. he converts it to a 3-d drawing / file then we get them printed. i personally believe in accuracy. so when ever i can i use the real mckoy as a model.
Prostreet Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Nice Dave, i wish i could draw like that.
Romell R Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Take your time dave the more time you spend on it , the more time I have to save up my pennys to buy a bunch of em LOL!
eviltwincustoms Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Wow I think your calipers and ruler get the most work out on your bench. I know for myself the calipers are the #1 tool I probably use the most. Love the one pic with all the straight lines to get symmetry and alignment of the main layout of the part. I will say you have one luxury probably most don't and that is direct access to the performance parts you are scaling out.
comp1839 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 thanks guys. bart, the lines are dimensional lines. they denote a dimension on either the "x" or "y" axis. you're right about it being easier having access to parts. it's even better when you own them. the pair of dominators are mine. LOL!
Mooneyzs Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Dave... awesome work on drawing up these carbs. I can't say thank you enough for drawing them up. I for one will be buying some of them for sure when TDR has them available. I wish I had a few dominators in my garage ... I do have a holley double pumper sitting on my '71 Elcamino though... . Dave on another topic and I don't mean to intrude on this thread, do you have any experience with super gas roadsters by chance? Chassis and stuff like that? for some reason after I was at the Arizona NHRA nationals seeing some of the sportsman classes I have been having this idea of doing a Super Gas roadster. It's another build that has been added to my list of like 7 different 1/16 scale builds...lol
stump Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I'll just say thank you right now! X 2 Dave, as Romell said, no rush man.....and I know they will be perfect replicas when you're finished. I'll be needing at least 2 pair...... (1/12 of course.... )
comp1839 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 thanks chris and stump. i'd like to make this part clear. i'm pretty sure it's illegal to make perfect copies of anything. be it these carbs or the pro mod body. something to do with copyright laws. all of the parts i do have changes made to try and make the part as close as possible and keep the legal types happy. if they're not happy the part goes away. anyway. here are some shots of what i'd like to provide. we'll call it dual carb 101. we'll start with a pair of dominator style carbs. which are 2 large 4 bbl. carbs. hopefully we can then make these into what are called "splits". these are those large 4 bbl. carbs cut in half and made into escentially (4) 2 barrel carbs. after that i'll be drawing up what are actually very large 2 bbl. carbs. hope this helps. chris, i don't have any working experience with a street roadster. i've seen them built, i have a couple of friends who've run them but, no, i haven't run one. sorry
jmpsebring Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 if you want to make the runners and the machined manifold top part along with the split carbs...that's ok too. just saying... great pics!
comp1839 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 jack, thanks for the suggestion but, there are just too many intake runner shapes / spacings / lengths and plenum designs for me to even attempt to make one. thats probably something best left to the individual modeler and his or her engine combination.
comp1839 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 i'm getting closer to completing the dominator drawings. i felt like trying my numbers out so, i machined up a resonable version of the dominator main body. remember this is not made by c.n.c. this is hand machined so,.......ttake it for what it's worth. i had fun with it! the pieces. the assembly. hope you enjoy!
Romell R Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Thats awesome Dave cant wait for you to get those to TDR great job buddy!
eviltwincustoms Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Just incredible Dave, I am continually amazed how you can do all this free hand without a cnc machine.
