Prostreet Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Amazing as usual Dave, You definatly have talent.
Mooneyzs Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Dave... you blow me away with your skills man. love your work!
eviltwincustoms Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I see right now, that if I break down and purchase a mill.... the first piece I have to get is a Rotary Table!
jmpsebring Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 If Dave makes two of them ...he wont need to send them to TDR... OH NO!!!
futurattraction Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Fantabulous work, Dave... Of course I would expect nothing else from you!!!
comp1839 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 thanks guys, mostly i just wanted you to see that things are progressing. the printed version should have a way higher level of detail than i could ever produce on my antiquated machinery. jack, don't worry. while i am going to make the second main body today (after all, what good is a single dominator? LOL), i will still be sending the prints off to TDR.
Romell R Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Got anymore pics of that carb youre working on Dave? would love to see it with the bowls on it
comp1839 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 i haven't gotten the fuel bowls done yet but here is where i'm at. for those who don't know how big a dominator is compared to a 4150-4160 style carb. here ya go. wait 'til you see how big the braswell style venturis are.
W-409 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 WOW, those are incredible!!! I'm just wondering, that how anyone can build anything like that??! Looks like you got amazing talents, Dave. Well, actually I was sure about that already. Carburetors are going to look very very very good when finished.
eviltwincustoms Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 i haven't gotten the fuel bowls done yet but here is where i'm at. for those who don't know how big a dominator is compared to a 4150-4160 style carb. here ya go. wait 'til you see how big the braswell style venturis are. I can see why you haven't made it to the bowls yet, look at that amazing detail in just the main body... I can only imagine what the rest of carburetor will look like when it is finished!
Red rocket 10 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Wow Dave , they are out of this world !!!!!!! Leonard
Romell R Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Can you see why Im gonna wait on Daves carbs to be finished ?.... Outstanding Dave!! simply Outstanding!
Prostreet Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Nice work Dave, Are the boosters machined? They look like cast. P.S. i will take 2 in 1/16th please lol.
comp1839 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) thanks guys! joe, the boosters are styrene, painted aluminum color. originally all boosters were cast. you can buy billet ones today. 1:1 of course. hehe. Edited March 10, 2012 by comp1839
stump Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hey Dave, "as close as possible" will be as good as gold, going by what you have hand machined so far..... Mind blowing... The complete set (dominators, splits and brasswells) will most definately be on my "to order" list mate.
jmpsebring Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Dave, I know this is jumping the gun somewhat...but I'd like to play with some intake manifold construction techniques. Aprox how wide is the base of the carb main body? I just want to make sure my top base plate is a little larger/wider than the carbs-to-be. I figure with that width, everything else can be eye-balled. thanks!
comp1839 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 the dominator BOLT pattern is 5.38" x 5.38". the outside of the dominator gasket is 6.25" x 6.25" but, the dimensions on the shear plates on some of my manifolds are 7" x 7". hope that helps.
Romell R Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Of course youre gonna have to convert those numbers to whatever scale youre working in. Dave prefers to hand you a fishing pole, in stead of a tuna sandwhich. lol (inside joke )
jmpsebring Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks Dave, It's just what I needed. Here is my in-progress intake.
Prostreet Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 WOW,That looks amazing. is that 1/16th Jack? what process did you use to make the upper part? getting ready to start on one for mine.
jmpsebring Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks! I put more photos under the catch all 1/25 coupe thread
jmpsebring Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Next is another thin top layer slightly smaller, a layer of thin wood, then the top plate.
jmpsebring Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Kinda like this but by no means is this done. I'm just playing and this is enough for the day. This is just the background for the carbs of course. The top plate will be thicker and far more detail. This is just a tinned piece of brass with a couple of round things on top sitting on a piece of wood Veneer.
