CanadianKronik Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I have been working on this for a while now, it is a 1960 ford starliner with a few custom touches. I lowered the front by flipping the spindles, i shaved the top trim off the body and the door handles, still not sure which direction to go. Here is some pics of it mocked up, frame is finished ill have pics of that later.
CanadianKronik Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 So i decided i am going to slam this thing as low as i can, i think it will look really good with white walls on it when it is slamed. Pics up later. How would i go about painting the tires white without having to wait months for it to dry?
CaptainAhab Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I use white primer with a stencil and ot usually dries pretty quick
vwrabbit Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I use white Tamiya acrylic. I mount the tire on a wheel and axle and chuck it in a cordless drill on slow. Tim
Ramfins59 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Can't you just raid the parts box... or borrow a set of whitewalls from another kit... ?? (Assuming of course, that you have a spare parts box and other kits to borrow from...)
CanadianKronik Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Can't you just raid the parts box... or borrow a set of whitewalls from another kit... ?? (Assuming of course, that you have a spare parts box and other kits to borrow from...) i have a few years worth of model kits that were wrecked when i moved so i have lots of parts and a pretty huge parts box collection but not much as far as white walls and especially no wide whites.
CanadianKronik Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 I really want to slam this thing on the ground and bag it with pump and tank just like my 1950 chevy pickup, i will also open the trunk and have pump and tank in there. Thats kinda where it will sit except just a tad higher as i want to put lake pipes on the side, it will have the same tires and rims but painted white walls as the tires have nice grove in them i can do it with a brush. I have seen a lowrider starliner at a local car show that looked really cool i might even change and go that route who knows?
CanadianKronik Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Today i managed to get the front suspension mostly done, will get the rear done tomorrow. I might have this thing painted and finished by sunday if everything goes smooth like it is. I am going to paint it a dark cherry red from dupli-color over a light or dark grey or a red primer base and hopefully it looks good. Here is a few update pics, this is the final ride height for the front, rear is as low as i can go but not finished yet. Camera is not the best and i not sure how to use the settings yet.
CanadianKronik Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Here is a mock up of ride height. Everything fits and lines up properly, interior, chassis, body, suspension and drive train (front tires are in loose in pic and wont have so much camber). I am not opening the hood just to finish this build and move onto the next really soon, maybe finish my 50 Chevy pickup.
Draggon Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I love how low it sits. Keep up the good work.
LURCH426 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Looks good so far.I should have got mine lower. Its posted Under glass
CanadianKronik Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 I seen yours LURCH426, i like it. I am painting mine a similar red from duplic-color it is called Dark Cherry Metalic. I am going to do some red, silver, aluminum, flat black and satin black for the interior if i don't paint the roof white, if i do i will throw some white into the interior instead of black but have yet to decide. I am also going to wire the engine and run some lines for the airbags in the front since i had to remover inner fender to get it to sit so low. I cannot wait for it to be finished.
Guest Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Nice lowering job John! I think it would look cool with front and rear rolled pans and different grille and tail light treatments. But,with that killer stance,it'll look cool with a stock body too. I'll definitely be keeping track on this build! P.S. put yourself a want ad in the wanted section for some wide whites. Someone will surely have a set to let go. I wish I had a set for you,but I don't. Edited March 1, 2012 by plowboy
CanadianKronik Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 I was originally going to put roll pans on front and rear with some hot rod tail lights and headlights but decided against it. Going to keep this mostly stock on the outside and interior. Now i just have to figure out what to do for the rear suspension and get the chassis done and painted.
CanadianKronik Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Today i finished the rear suspension, will post pics later. Tonight i will start on the interior and then the motor, i have to change the exhaust out cuz stock will not work no more which is fine with me,ill probably straight pipe it.
Modlbldr Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 John- I'm glad that you didn't go with the rolled pans and custom front and rear. This car has such a beautiful stock look when it is lowered. Want proof? Look at your photos from post #9 and #10. Especially the photo from straight on in the front. My favorite1:1 build of this car is the white and blue car that was done by Gambino Customs. Here's a link. http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/Gambino_Kustoms/vehicles/9370 Keep up the great work on this one. Later-
CanadianKronik Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Modlbldr i seen that car on google images months ago and that is what sparked me to build this, but i was going to do it red/ white. I more or less prefer a stockish appearance over custom smoothed out roll panned look any day on most vehicles.
CanadianKronik Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Chassis is mocked up, needs a few details and some touch ups but is coming together, pics up tomorrow. I am going to have paint on the body and interior tomorrow night and start detailing and assembling this and hopefully have it done in a week or so.
CanadianKronik Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 having some problems updating my photobucket to update my thread but it is not cooperating today, ill try again later.
CanadianKronik Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Well i made absolutely no progress on this or my 50 bagged chevy, I did manage to do some final adjustments. Just a tiny bit of bodywork i missed to do then it is paint time. I installed the lake pipes on it but im not sure if i like them or not, let me know what u think.
CanadianKronik Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 progress has slowed the last lil while due to family in the hospital.I have painted whitewalls on my tires with testors flat white enamel and it is taking forever to dry, what is going on?
vwrabbit Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Enamel won't ever dry on the tires. Best to use acrylic. I use Tamiya acrylics for the tires. Need to thin it a little and do multiple coats. I like the lake pipes! Keep up the good work! Tim
CanadianKronik Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Lesson learned, destroyed a nice set of tires in the process but that is not stopping me, going to buy another kit and build it stock and rob the new tires from it as it has 2 sets skinny whites and wide tires. I need to get to the LHS and buy some plug wires and misc details to help finish this one.
CanadianKronik Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) had some issues with diferent brand primer and paint so it is getting striped and repainted, pics in the next day or 2 Edited June 13, 2012 by CanadianKronik
