Casey Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Does anyone recall which kits included two-piece styrene (as opposed to vinyl or rubber-like) slicks? I swear it was the AMT "Old Pro" Nova Pro Stock kit from the original early '80s issue, but can't confirm it. The slicks I'm thinking of had small ridges spaced around the inner circumference of both halves, and I think each slick half piece was the same size/thickness, so the seam between the two halves was right down the center of the contact patch when assembled. I'm 99% sure these had Goodyear raised lettering on the sidewall, too.
moparmagiclives Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Not sure but I have a set, need them ?
mikemodeler Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Casey, The Old Pro Nova kit I have (80's issue) has solid rubber rear slicks. I will check some other kits I have to see if I can find what you are looking for. I do remember there being plastic slicks like that but couldn't tell you which kits they were in!
a/gass Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) yes amt old pro,58 impala and a few others had the goodyear markins - and some of the old jo-han kits had the goodyears and firestones?i belive - but dont have any handy right now but i think the S&M cuda, mavric,&comet? just seen the post above mine(came in wile i was answering)the nova kits i have are the old novacane a old pro from 83,89,92 and 06 and all have the 2 pice slick as do all the 58 impalas i have. Nick Winter Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 If you want a set from the '58 Impala Casey, let me know. Nick
Pete L. Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I'm thinking that the AMT kits from '66 and '67 had them, and their A/FX kits ( Chevy II, Chevelle, Mustang, 'Cuda) ALL had TWO piece slicks as well as front tires made of plastic. I know that either the '66 or '67 MPC Dodge Charger had them.
Casey Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Thanks for the help so far. Can one of you with a pair of hard plastic sytrene slicks confirm that both halves are of equal width, instead of one piece being just a sidewall? I know the slick half I once had was molded in black styrene, like the '80 AMT Old Pro Nova kit was...which is maybe why I am thinking that's the kit they were included with, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly and both halves of the slick were not of equal width.
diymirage Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 what about the modified stockers ? i have the 53 ford car hauler and it came with 2 spare racing tires as you described BUT i cant remember if both sides were eqaul or not
timc Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Casey,I have the amt ratpacker nova and it has the hard plastic ,two piece tires front and rear, with the good year markings. Both halves are equal in size and join in the middle of the tire. They are molded in the same color plastic as the body. Do you need them? Tim
Guest Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Casey, the slicks in the AMT Old Pro Nova are two piece with equal widths to each side and the seam in the middle. I have a set that are glued together. If you need them, let me know and I'll send them out with the wheels I have for you today.
ChrisPflug Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) I found three kits in the stash with two piece slicks but are all split at the sidewall rather than the center- the MPC original '71 Road Runner and GTX have "round" Goodyears in white styrene, the AMT '74 Camaro white styrene with molded "flat bottom" and the JoHan cuda in softer black plastic with Goodyear lettering on one side, Firestone on the other. Also have an unknown pair of "round" white styrene on a builtup AMT '66 Vette convertible- not sure if they were original to the kit Edited February 28, 2012 by ChrisPflug
Casey Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Didnt the Cop Out Duster have them Yes, but those had a wrinkled sidewall IIRC. Tim and Roger, thank you, that's what I need to know. I'm not losing it...yet, or at least not totally.
gray07 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 If you need the Casey, ive got 2 goodyear bluestreaks that are split in the center
