PBII Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I only started building about 6months ago. This is what I have done so far, I still have alot to learn but it is really a great hobby! This was a really tricky build. Parts that would not fit. But overall it came out pretty nice. Not a very pretty car but was a good build. This car's decals was hard to apply. My first build This little mini was fun to do. I'm a big Porsche Fan My second car!
jaymcminn Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Good work on those builds, especially for only being six months into your career as a builder. That little Lotus is especially sharp!
Monty Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Paul, nice to see what you've been able to complete since you took up the hobby. That little Maserati was originally made by Aurora & had opening doors, trunk & hood, so yeah, it's a bit fiddly. Monogram ended up with the tooling in the late '70s(?), and molded them in a hideous shade of eggplant purple. Looks like you got all the body panels to line up nicely! (side note: I saw one of these 3500GTs on Wealth TV the other day when they were out at a concourse event for Italian cars. The car was a '57 with factory electric windows.) For only having six months experience, you seem to have gotten the basics down. If you have any questions about techniques etc, feel free to ask. This board has some very talented & helpful members.
PBII Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 I picked up the Aurora kit as a bit of a scrapper so it was a struggle. It's also a mission to get hold of nice Hobby Shops around here, lots of the materials are not available this side so it makes it tricky - thanx for the great comments and I will surely be back here for help.
Harry P. Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 You're off to a great start. My advice would be to take the next step: start using Bare Metal Foil for your chrome trim, instead of silver paint. You'll get a much more realistic effect. http://www.bare-metal.com/How-to-use-Bare-Metal-Foil.html
Modelbuilder Mark Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Very nice job for a new person to the Hobby!
PBII Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I am still trying to get hold of some bare metal foil at hobby shops but with no success, will have to get some abroad but pricing would be much higher ( you guys in the states have it easy when it comes to supplies) but I will keep searching
