jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) Well after a few mistakes, some lessons learned, and a lot of cursing I have finished my first build in over 20+ years! This was a great practice build for me and learned a lot. However I can see that I have lots to learn if I will ever want to come close to some of your all's stuff! A lot of you are an inspiration to me so without further ado, I give you my 1959 Chevy Corvette: Just to recap, these are a few pictures I took BEFORE watching Donn Yost's videos: Not very pretty at all. This was even after a clear coat. So I dunked it in LA's Totally Awesome, then, after that didn't work to well I dunked it in brake fluid and started over. While that was going on I continued the build: Then it came time for the main event. And wow was I impressed. The only thing I wasn't really happy with was using Future as a clear coat. (Should had listened to Donn better) so on my next build I'll try the other stuff. But I'm still really happy. It actually was better before I put the body on the chassis as I ALWAYS have issues with that part. I can remember 20+ years ago I still had issues with that. (I'll need some tips on that, but I'll post to a different section first) Ok, have I built up the suspension long enough for everyone......? Here's the final product with varying focus shots for appeal! Edited March 9, 2012 by jayhkr
jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 I know it's not perfect but I like it. I'm always looking for ways to make it better so all comments are welcomed (just don't slay me). Thank you to everyone who has helped me with this build, it is truly appreciated! Till the next one!
BOSWELL891 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Looks really good the paint turned out great nice job
jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Thanks guys. Tomorrow's payday so that means a trip to either the LHS, Hobby Lobby or I'll buy one of the models on my list online! Yep the journey has just begun!
Roncla Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 It looks like Donns' videos paid for themselves in the improvement you can see in your paint job. Black is one of the hardest colors to master as it shows everything. I've got Donns' Video as well and they are well worth the price of admission
rv1963 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Looks pretty darn good to me and the pics are really good to, always a good idea to have one shot of the finished model's chassis, be proud you have done well.
skmodelcars Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Pretty sharp looking model! Yes, black is the most difficult color to get right since it shows any bodywork or painting mistake you can make. Doesn't look like you made any mistakes here!
Foxer Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Nice job .. Don's video looked successful! You also have a nice steady hand detail painting!
Guest Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Very nice job. My only suggestion would be to have cleared over the flame decals, otherwise, kudos!
crazyjim Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Another Yost convert. The 2nd time around seemed to do the trick for you. SHINY :) RULES!
jayhkr Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 LOL, lets just hope this wasn't a "1 hit wonder" and we'll see what I can do next. Stopped by Hobby Lobby and Michael's today didn't see anything that got my fancy. I might run up to Hobby Haven in a bit to see if they have anything reasonable and catches my eye. If not I have a LONG list of models I'm putting together. Thanks for all the compliments!
