Original Issue Kits vs. Reissues

  1. 1. Which type of kits do you prefer to purchase?

    • Original issue
    • Early (second and third) reissues
    • Current/most recent reissue

I voted original but it depends on the decals. If the reissue has the same decals i willget the reissue. It is all about fresh decals for me.

It's all about value and availabilty for me. If a reissue is available at all, I will always opt for the reissue to build.

However, with what I have in mind to build, I can usually wait for reissues being issued until the cows come home.

That is, unless I finally decide to start building that pristine, pricelss original, thereby ruining its value into the middle of next week.

There isn't yet a better method to trigger a reissue.

In may cases, instead of ruining the value of a pristine original of which no reissue exists, I rather opt for a 'builder'.

A quite popular variant, which is sadly missing from the poll.

That's covered by the 'original issue' selection, I would think. I have a lot of old kits that I bought used as restorable builtups, as well as unbuilt originals.

I would agree.

I build the kits I can get a hold of. When I have the desire to add a kit to my collection I look for the least expensive issue I can find. So, if the recent issue is cheaper I buy that, if the older issue is cheaper I buy that instead. The only exception to this is when I really want to build a kit that had a specific decal set with it. Then I will look for the issue that included the decals I want.

Thats how I feel, I am sure there a few kits that out there that are rare and if I had to build it or the reissue I probably build the reissue.

But these are model kits, to build them, I am in the building of model kits hobby, I am not in the collecting of unbuilt model kits, so I will build.

I like original issues, but good re-issues are fine with me. As long as I get to build what I want in a manner I like, I'm happy. My biggest problem is when the molds are so badly maintained or worn that the parts don't fit well anymore, then I have a problem.
