Brutalform Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I see you put alot of time in filling the pin marks, but I was wondering if you forgot the flash running down the exhaust system??? Not trying to nit pick, as your build is amazing, and it was easy to notice with all of your great detail work.
Bartster Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I haven't checked in for a while. Man, excellent progress. I'm glad you're doing yours before mine! I have gotten some great tips/ideas from you. Thanks! Still LOVE this color!
GeeBee Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Geoff, outstanding work. I have a couple of questions for you. 1. What did you use for a ratio for mixing the lighter blue for the interior between the metallic blue and aluminum? 2. What did you use for the darker color? Both colours were mixed using a combo' of Tamiya metallic blue and aluminium, but didn't measure them, I just mixed them until I got the shade that matched the photo's I had.

That's the one part I wish I could go back and do again, I removed them from the silencer boxes, the rest looked o.k, until I put on the Alclad, I will use the knowledge I've learnt on this to build a better model when I do the '69 version I have in the stash
GeeBee Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Not so sure I like the color of the floorboards. You can get embossing poweder is a closer shade of blue, but everything else is looking so badass. JJ It looks much better in real life, I just cant get the camera to get the colours right, it's more of a slate blue, I want to try the embossing powders, Hobbycraft have it in stock, but haven't had the chance to get there lately,
jamesG Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Very nice. Working on the same kit my self. Mine will be gold and white with vinyl top. The only thing that bugs me is the decals for the side marker lights so I found some tiny washers in the rc section of the hobby shop , a little filing to get them the right size and shape and a little paint should do the trick. Keep up the good work.

roadhawg Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) Interior looks really good. When I first saw it, I suspected it was simply a lighting issue with the carpet. Can't remember where I saw it, but someone used straight pins for the marker lights....drilled a hole, installed the pin, and put a tiny drop of paint in the center. It looked remarkably convincing. edward smith Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Looks good, I thought a black carpet would have looked better in that interior though.
GeeBee Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Well got the interior finished today, so I can get on with polishing out the body and get the BMF done.
GeeBee Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 Got the BMF applied to the parts that needed to be done in chrome on the rear panel, then the panel was masked off and spraying in satin black lacquer, then I took a small cotton bud dipped in lacquer thinners and wiped away the paint revealing the BMF undeneath, the same was done with the Charger badge, a little bit of red paint was used to pick out the R/T emblem, the top and bottom strip will be done in BMF when the paint hardens, Also got the paint polished out, as I had used acrylic lacquer and not cellulose, I didn't have to use the machine polishing, Poorboys SSR2 was used followed by Meguires NXT tech wax, and then went over it with Novus # 2
GeeBee Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 finally got the rear panel finished ... just needs the bumper fitting, but I did a dry fit earlier, lined up perfectly.
ThatGuy Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 That paintjob is absolutely flawless. This is my favorite build that I've seen so far.

TooOld Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I just looked at this thread for the first time . . . WOW ! Incredible detail work . Definitely among the best .
GeeBee Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Only spent a little time in the hobby room this evening, the front grill has been done in chrome Alclad, masked to do the metallic grey, and is masked yet again to do the black grill, the Charger R/T badge has been covered in chrome BMF and will be wiped over with a cotton bud dampened in thinners after the black goes on, the chrome outer trim will be done in BMF, also got the rear screen trim done using chrome BMF, I thought i would start with what I thought would be the hardest to do (It was !!)
tyrone Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 this is an awesome looking build.... detailing is crisp, neat and clean...
GeeBee Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 got the grille painted this morning, still need to do the chrome trim around the black grille, but I will leave it a day or so to dry out. Also got the distributor fitted and wired, found the firing order on the 'net, and also added the vacuum pipe from the distributor to the carburetor, the carb' was drilled and a short section of a cut metal pin was inserted, the other end was held in boiling water before putting it over the end of the vacuum advance on the distributor, this is the first time I have ever wired up an engine ...
Rob Hall Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Sharp build...I like the color choices and interior detailing.
brodie_83 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 This build is outstanding! I also have this kit and want to build it either as a resto mod or a replica of the car in the movie "Blade". One question...and you may have answered this earlier in the thread...why didn't you clear the engine?
GeeBee Posted April 28, 2012 Author Posted April 28, 2012 .why didn't you clear the engine? I was going to, but decided against it, as I think a nice sheen looks more in scale that a super high gloss,
GeeBee Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 my goal today was the get the BMF on the body finished, but I still have 2 wheel arches to do, it will get done tomorrow, also popped the air cleaner onto the carb's
