Dr. Cranky Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Other than the fact that he has the syrupy gloss of enamel running through his veins, he continues to produce some wonderful paint jobs (not to mention that EYEGORE is totally besides himself!): Again, for those of you who might wonder why I'm always posting pictures of Donn's in progress builds, it's because he doesn't have a photo archive and so he sends me the latest of what he is working on (an exchange I truly love and appreciate because I get to see what the Old Man is up to), and I turn around and I am glad to share it with you here. In other words, I have his permission to do so.
Kustom Rodder Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hey Donn is this the 48 that murphy was giving you problems with?Looks great love that shade of blue.
The70judgeman Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Man I love blue...the darker and deeper the better! Awesome job again Donn!
Terry Jessee Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hey, Virg, do you know if he's still using that paint technique he demonstrates in his videos? Thanks, Terry
Dr. Cranky Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Terry, he sure is. Donn must be fishing or working today when he hasn't chimed in. I know he's been experimenting with the Pearl Ex and Donn's always trying to come up with new colors. Skip, I'm sure Donn will chime in soon. Stay tuned in.
LoneWolf15 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hi Guys ! Nope , no fishing today ! I was in the shop painting a body for some crazed individual's apocalyptic community buildoff ! Lol ! Terry , exact same method with each and every paint job ! This is Pearl X violet over a Testors enamel color base . It is a much deeper blue than what it appears in the photos , with a violet tinge to it , almost a burple shade ! The body that gave me fits is now in the possession of The Loosiyana Loonietic ! The color just wasn't what I was looking for . Rather than dunk it , Glen traded me for a virgin body and parts to replace what I sent to him . Good riddance , I had the last laugh ! ...... I think! Virg , I'll be sending pictures of the body and parts for your community build some time next week . Twisted piece for sure !
crazyjim Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hey Donn - your wife lets you dress funny. Wonderful pics and goes to prove that SHINY :) RULES!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Looking forward to it, Donn. LOL, Jim, what's wrong with the way Donn's wife dresses him?
LoneWolf15 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Looking forward to it, Donn. LOL, Jim, what's wrong with the way Donn's wife dresses him? Well , Kathie isn't my wife , but , she is my lady ! As for how I'm dressed , it was a conspiracy I tell ya ! Some crazy individual kidnapped my airbrushes and said I had to wear that shirt or else ! What could I do ? Now , Glenn , he dresses funny ! That boy is a two bagger ! Lmao !
Dr. Cranky Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 I had nothing to do with it, I confess!
RobRus Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 @ Dr Cranky, Thanks for posting these pic's of Don's @ Don, You do some fantastic paint jobs Don, If I may ask... Most of what I have seen you do is using Testors enamels with pearl (or pearl-like) effects which would require a clear coat. What clear do you use? And are you wet sanding and rubbing it out or do you leave the natural gloss? I know that pictures do not do paint justice since a lot of the depth and subtle colors get lost but your finishes are stunning. Keep those pics coming and thanks for sharing your work with us. Bob
LoneWolf15 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Bob , Thank you for the compliments ! I use Testors clear top coat for all my gloss work . Alot of the time , I simply don't need to wet sand my finishes , simply because I'm such a fanatic when it comes to keeping the paint environment controlled . When I do , I use MicroMark's polishing cloths to wet sand , rub out with Novus #2 and finish it with The Final Details Treatment wax.
rmvw guy Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Nice paint, keep the eyes poping! I just picked the '48 kit up today.
crazyjim Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Jim, what's wrong with the way Donn's wife dresses him? Would you walk out of the house dressed like that? Wait - yes you would. Or maybe change into the coverall PJs. Man, I love this place.
krazyglu Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Wow now that is a smooth looking paint job. Been hearing all about "Donn's techniques" and apparently they are working. Now Donn when you spray your enamel base are you using silver or gold strictly? I ask because it seems as though you are using a colored enamel base followed by a colored candy top coat creating amazing final colors? Either way very impressive work, wish I could see it in the flesh. Thanks for sharing Cranky, we all appreciate your dedication to the hobby and this forum P.s I want one of those shirts
Dr. Cranky Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) Would you walk out of the house dressed like that? Wait - yes you would. Or maybe change into the coverall PJs. Man, I love this place. That's because you haven't seen me in my overalls or my impending Halloween custome! Wait until October 31st! Edited April 1, 2012 by Dr. Cranky
heatride Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 The oldman has lost it folks ! I got the 48 in the mail the other day and he said it just was not his best work . He has definitely gone over the deep end . The one he sent me is beautiful , as we say down here all his dogs are not barking ! I'm going to make me a scrapple sandwich , and here is a pic of what he sent .
LoneWolf15 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 That's because you haven't seen me in my overalls or my impending Halloween custome! Wait until October 31st! I never thought that I would dread a holiday.... This , ummm , yeah , gotta admit it ! Nightmare City ! The coveralls were bad enough , Virg ! Don't even want to consider something that's worse !
crazyjim Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 You're killing me, doc. I'll be wearing the same costume this year. I might change the mask though. Nice paint job, Donn. SHINY :) RULES!
