Brizio Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Here one of the las add to my collection. It is a 1948 ACE Jeep Jeepster, I wanted this kit for soooo long, but was very difficult to find, and the price sometime was over the double zero... Finelly I found this one at a decent price, it is still complete, and I will not build it. The box, I don't know if the price ($1) is original or add later, If original it was kind of spendy... Open box, always a magic thing... The instruction... All the parts, a few are extra.
philo426 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Pretty cool! I remember my dad telling me about wooden kits that you had to carve to shape like a Pinewood derby car. That is a different animal but still a nice historical find!
Eshaver Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Rob, I have a couple of wooden kits made by Hudson Miniatures . They're not to bad . I've done some airplanes that had rubber bands and yep, they flew real good too. The big issue with Balsa wood is sealing it to take paint , the stuff soaks paint up like , uh....... Ed Shaver
Guest Johnny Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 That is one I have never seen before! I've yet to see any older kits made of rock though either.
Erik Smith Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Here is one I came across: The metal part are really soft - maybe lead? - I think it would take a very skilled builder to replicate the box art. I like the Jeepster kit better - although it too looks like a tough build! Cool.
Brizio Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 @Jantrix, a that time there was only wood... I usually search for Jeep kits, and ACE has also some Willys MB (the military one).
Brizio Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 @Erik, wow, that's a nice kit too! With a lot of detail.
espo Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I remember the first "kit" that I got as a child. It was of a '32 Fored roadster, or that was what the box said. It was little more than a chunck of wood that had "sides" of the body that you would glue on and sand smooth with the body. It wasn't even as nice as this Jeepster. And we snivel about a few mold lines on your models today. This must have a great meaning to you for what ever reason, enjoy. Please post pictures if you deside to build this as it could be fun to whatch.
Brizio Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Trace the Balsa onto styrene and have at it ! I already have a resin kit of it. I remember the first "kit" that I got as a child. Please post pictures if you deside to build this as it could be fun to whatch. Agree on the mold lines today! I:D:D:D
