How about newspapers not only from a different location, but also from a different time. I recently unpacked some items that I had packed away when I moved from Akron to Phoenix... in 1989! Talk about a strange sweep of nostalgia.

I have friends around the U.S. who gather up specific HotWheels, MBox, and Jada castings for me to make runs with of Promotional Customs.

I always like to read the newspaper they use to pack the boxes with.

Never boring it always gives a view into someone else's local world.

I subscribe to the Houston Chronicle (only a shadow of its former self) and the New Orleans Times Picayune arrives in the mail every day.

Now mostly advertising the Houston Chronicle has cut back so much staff that I've noticed an abundance of typos and grammatical errors.

They must have fired all the copy readers.

Want to do a head-scratcher on someone? Next time you get a newspaper in Chinese or Japanese, cut out sections of text, and staple them together like a letter. Send it to someone you know without a return address. Take it from me, it will keep them wondering.
