The idea for this model came from custom parts in Monogram's '58 Thunderbird where the grille reminded me of a tiki statue with the headlights as eyes.

A partial list of the modifications includes:

  • dechromed some parts for paint
  • cut out the trunk
  • removed the rear seat and reversed it for watching sunsets and surfing
  • cut the roofline at the C pillar to match the door panels
  • handpainted all of the wood grain and graphics
  • handcarved the tiki shifter from a sprue
  • painted the bamboo seat inserts
  • used drawer liner material as the carpet
  • painted the body with Testor's Icy Blue and White Lightning
  • all of the graphics were painted with Testor's acryl

I'd still like to create a matching surfboard to go with the model. I had a few issues with the camera, so the pictures aren't the best quality. I hope you can enjoy it just the same. Comments are welcome!

LORDY, THAT'S MY KIND OF BUILD! LONG LIVE TIKI!

Great job. Congratulations. You've added a very different model to the forum archives here. Nice.

I like this build. Unique. Well done.

I can't quite make out what is surfing on side picture. Is it a peanut?

Really cool.

it's a tiki statue with long hair-it was hard for me to paint details in the space i had to work in so it's not the best
