Wheel pic needed

Does anyone have a close up picture of the Rally wheels found in any of the Chevy pickup kits? I want to see if I can machine a new ring and convert it to 1/25.

This is the real wheel I want to accurately replicate in 1/25. All I need is a center portion with the tiny slots. I can machine the "ring" portion of the wheel out of aluminum. Shown here are the two wheel drive version (the five lug) and the four wheel drive version (with six lugs.)

Why not just get a set from an MPC '78 Stepside? , , Or do you need 6 lugs instead of 5?

Hi Fabrizio, I'm actually needing pics of a Chevy truck rally wheel. That type of rally you posted was found on Camaros, Corvettes, Novas, etc.

Your idea will definitely work Ben. The center of the Monogram wheel will come out perfect. Since I can't machine rings,I used the ring from an old Monogram Mopar ralley wheel. It's still not 1/25,but it's the size that I need for my build. I done a quicky just to see if it would work. All I need to do now is make three more,paint and assemble them!

This is what they look like dry fit. It doesn't show in the photo very well because of the reflection on the ring,but the size of the openings are reduced quite a bit and look much better scaled than before.

Those pics really help Roger, thank you! It does actually look more like a Mopar wheel than a Chevy truck rally wheel? You don't by chance, have a smaller, 1/25 trim ring you could set on it to see how that would look?

You're welcome Ben! These are the only two wheel rings I have in 1/25 that are deep enough. They're the rings that go on the back side of a wheel. They don't look much different,but they do scale out to fifteen inches.

Thanks again Roger. It does look a little more like the wheel I'm wanting with that smaller trim ring. I would need to correct that center cap as well.

Mike (mikemodeler) very generously donated some wheels to me form both the molded in black (early) and molded in turquoise (most recent) version of the Chevy/GMC 4x4 kits, and the slots in the black wheels are definitely smaller.

I've pumped out a few resin copies in five-lug form, so I will try to take and post some pics in the next few days.

Oooooh, muuuuch better! Nice job!!!!!!!!! I need to get some of those. Are you selling them? These are still 1/24 right? You have not converted them down to 1/25? I am wanting these for 1/25 builds, which wouldn't be a problem as I could machine the current trim ring off and machine a smaller one from aluminum.

The only problem I see with this wheel is the center cap is much too small. It should actually protrude into the lug pattern a little and have grooves for the lugs. The lug pattern may also be a touch big. The slots are definitely smaller and look better scaled than the later versions. I wonder why Monogram changed them?

I don't recall which kit wheel the white center section came from, but it may have been the other Chevy Rally wheels found in the '78 El Camino kit(s). I decided to put the two pieces together and to see how they looked after some discussion of five lug wheels in the '77 Chevy van review thread. I recently got some of the AMT/MPC Chevy truck steel wheels, which have the center cap you mentioned, Roger, so those will be modified eventually.

No clue why they changed, either, and I'm 99% sure the black one is a Monogram wheel. Does anyone have a similar 1/25 scale MPC wheel they could take and post a pic of?

These are still 1/24 right? You have not converted them down to 1/25?

That's a shame! Would have made making a new master much easier! Ironically enough, I just went to the store and I passed a late model Dodge pickup that had wheels that looked identical to those Chrysler car wheels!

Yea, they fit the pickups. It was a popular swap on the '70's pickups.

The truck I saw appeard to be 95-98 Dodge. I wonder if they still made those wheels around that time?

I think that all 4x4 Chevy trucks/Blazer's from the 70's and 80's had the 6 lug wheels . The 5 lug wheels were from the half ton trucks that were 2x4 and vans also.

I'm trying to get my buddy Jamie to post the pics of the wheels he modified using those old MPC rallies. He did the exact thing I'm wanting to do. He's building a replica of his real street truck that he built. Hopefully he'll post here soon.

I think that all 4x4 Chevy trucks/Blazer's from the 70's and 80's had the 6 lug wheels .....

I never paid all that much attention to 'em, but from the photo below of my former Chalet and from a quick glance at other '77 & '76 Chalets in my mega-pile of photos, I can say at least these two years of GM 4x4 Blazers & Jimmys had 10 slot 6 lug rally wheels. If I ever get to making a factory replica stock of one of these, I'll have to figure out how to make these wheels or hope someone has already done so. At least from my full size vehicle, I learned the difference between the emblems & colors of the center caps on '76s & '77s (except now I wonder if the background circle was black from the factory or painted that way by a prior owner...)

The 10-slot rally wheels were available on all GM pickups from 73-87/91; 6-lug for 4x4 and 5-lug for 4x2. The only kit that offers the 5-lug wheels is the original 1978 issue MPC C10, in 1:25 scale. The Monogram 75/76 pickup kits have the 6-lug rally wheels.

Chevy has had 5-lug wheels on standard pickups since at least 1955.

That is incorrect. Chevrolet and GMC went to 5 lug on 1/2 ton 2wd trucks in '71. '70 and prior, and '99 and newer 1/2 ton 2wd and all years (except early '55 1/2 ton NAPCO) of 1/2 ton 4x4 are 6 lug. Some versions of the '88-'94 3/4 ton without the C6P also have 6 lug wheels on both 2 and 4 wheel drive models. Also, 3/4 ton trucks prior to 1946 are also 6 lug.
