MRJ Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hi Everyone, This is my first project in many years, built many 1/25 scale cars but with my severe arthritis the hands have a hard time. So I am going to try the 1/16 scale, I will be slow but hopefully won't bore you to much. I received my Willys and some parts from Terry @ Flashpoint Motor Sports today and my 3/32" brass tubing so I am about ready to get it started. Now I am not in the same league as the rest of the builders building the big scale but will give it my best. ~Mike
Prostreet Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Nice collection of parts, can't wait to see what you do with it.
tyrone Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Love seeing all these pro mods... locked in on this one too....
Mooneyzs Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 This is going to be a great build. I.will be following for sure. Already looking forward to updates
TedsModeling Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 What's not to love about a Pro Mod Willys? Good luck with this build and welcome back to modeling. You've got all the right stuff to start with and I'm sure the experts here will help when you want it. I'll be following, too.
stump Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hey Mike, welcome to Funsville. Man, you sure picked a great piece for your first venture back into the hobby mate. The Willys is ULTRA kool. Terry has a great range of parts too, which will help a lot along your journey. And hey, we're all in a learning curve here....least in the 1/16 frame of things. Good luck and I'm another along for the ride.....
pharr7226 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 You have lots of goodies. I love Willys promods. The stance looks good. I'll watch this one closely.
gasser59 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Oh this is goiing to be good. Welcome back to the bench.
MicroNitro Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Are you doing a particular car or a phantom? Looks like a good start.
eviltwincustoms Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I will be keeping my eye on this build as well... great to see another 1/16th build taking place. Welcome to the family of Pro Mod builds.
Dragracer Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Seems you have everything in order, so I guess I will join the group & keep an eye on this build, I have the 1/25th Willys from Terry, it's a real nice looking car.
MRJ Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Just a small update tonight, I spent a hour or so thinning out the thick spots on the body and started the chassis which will be interesting to build as the inside of the body is oddly shaped and will be a tough challenge. Hope to get more done tomorrow. ~Mike
Kanedge Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Great subject, I love the shape of the Willys cars. We had one in Australia in Top Doorslammer called Wild Willy, awesome colour. Should try and see if I have a photo of it for you.
MRJ Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Joe, I had that table jig made 10 years ago at a local trade school for $50 solid aluminium it does a great job I only wish the threaded holes were 1/4" on center instead of 1/2" but it works.
MRJ Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Made some progress on the chassis tonight, just not enough time in the day. ~Mike
iBorg Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 What brand solder are you using? I find Stay Brite to the best and I can get cleaner joints. Mike
MRJ Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Mike it's Kester solder. I will have to give Stay Brite a try, thanks for the tip it's appreciated.
RAT-T Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 CHASSIS LOOKS GREAT MIKE I LIKE THAT FIXTURE TABLE, DID YOU MAKE THAT OR BUY IT?
MRJ Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Tom, I had it made 10 years ago the arthritis in my hands makes it hard for me to hold parts so I had the table made to help.
