Scuderia Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 If one were to get a mat, is there a typical modelers size, or is there a size to look for?
Foxer Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) This is Micro Marks take on them .. though they had 3 sizes but only two. I would just get one that fits your work area and budget. Personally I have an 8.5 x 12 one and have never thought I needed something larger. Edit: sorry .. I meant to put the link in here .. Micro Mark cutting mats and we get Michaels here, but they too have cutting mats. Edited April 30, 2012 by Foxer
Chillyb1 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Do you have a Hobby Lobby anywhere nearby? They carry several sizes at reasonable prices. Check the drafting section.
Erik Smith Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I only use about a 3 inch by 3 inch spot on my 12 by 8 mat. The rest is covered with parts and tools.
Scuderia Posted April 30, 2012 Author Posted April 30, 2012 I didnt even know they had drafting sections at the Lobby lol. I didn't explore the store much, but i'll check that out thanks
Jon Cole Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Get the 40% off coupon for Michaels to get a great deal on one. I suggest a size that fills your work area.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 It actually doesn't hurt to invest in a couple that are different sizes . . . I have one covering the bench surface, and then another I use to square up things on and cut, etc . . . it's one of those tools you can't have too many of.
58 Impala Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I bought the Xacto 9"x12" gray self healing mat. I like it and it's just big enough.
crazyjim Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Get the biggest one you can afford and cut it in half if you need to size it down.
Harry P. Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 The bigger the better. You can't ever have one that's too big... only one that's too small!
