I'm building a 36 ford and I was wondering what kind of hinges I should use to make the hood open the correct way where it is split down the middle and folds up like wings as it opens. I was thinking of using some kind of piano hinges but I'm having trouble finding some that would work.

I'm gonna call Charles Rowley in MA tomorrow afternoon, he has a line on some fantastic miniature piano hinges made in the UK, that will fill the bill for you perfectly!

I have used a good quality rag paper. It's more to scale and doesn't push the hood parts out so far. Just cut the hood in the appropriate places and then fold the paper length wise using the peek of the fold as the hing point. CA glue works to join the "hing" to the hood pieces. Trim to fit. you wont be opening and closing the hood that much so it WILL hold up. Wish I still had the model I did this on for some photos. Believe me, it does work.

Are they the Phoenix Models hinges? I saw those online the other day but I couldn't figure out how to change the currency into US dollars on their website so I could buy some.

You can use this currency converter to find the equivalent of GBP (Great Britain Pounds) to USD (US Dollars).

It's Phoenix Model Development, yes. As for the currency conversion, you should be able to find many of those online. I've seen Charlie's fire apparatus on which he's used Phoenix piano hinges, in 1/25 scale, they sure look fantastic (and they work just like the real thing as well.
