mackinac359 Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Of course it is a Peterbilt. I'm building a 2004 378 SBFA with the 'newer' hood and the holder cab doors and mirrors. I'm using a Revell of Germany PB 377 and a resin hood cast from my master pattern by Spaulding Trading and Shipping. The color is Duplicolor Ford light blue metallic. Tonight I'm working on filling the visible seams on the fuel tanks, building battery and tool box covers and some other items. I don't quite know what the final outcome will be with this other than it will be a tractor. UPDATE! FINISHED 7/11/07 I decided to go with a fancy road tractor. So far all of my SBFA trucks have been construction or straight jobs. Loosely based on a 378 SBFA seen in a photo on www.hankstruckpictures.com. Mine has light bars, air cleaner lights, bumper lights, fog lights, spot mirrors, sleeper roof stainless trim, rear of sleeper window complete with visor and the drivers seat has a "sheepskin" cover (okay, it is tan/beige acrylic paint applied in gobs to create the sheepskin look). The above photo is the RH frame mounted air tank covered in Bare Metal Foil. The fuel tank ends were also sanded and covered in BMF masking the seam. More pics on my site www.timstrucks.com Thanks for looking! Tim
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 What's goin' on... Tim That'll look good as a fleet tractor no special bells or whistles. Just a plain jane truck!
mackinac359 Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 Scott I was originally thinking a fleet truck, but somehow the bells-whistles and doo-dads have crept into the plan. We shall see how this turns out. Tim
Old Albion Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Tim, Looks good so far. Like the colour and the stripes.
phoneguy Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Tim, a suggestion--- maybe a hotshot??? just a thought.   Jerry
Guest Anthony Oteri Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Looks great as usual Tim. I like the color also, just the right shade.
mackinac359 Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Anthony Speaking of color.. and the right shade: I lost one of the sleeper extender brackets. I don't know what I did, but it is gone. So I found one in the parts box. "Easy fix" I thought, just paint it and be all set. WRONG! I don't have any more of the blue that matches! I ended up using an old can of Plasikote that is close. Drat. The color just doesn't have the same depth to it that the Duplicolor has. (different shade). Tim
Casey429 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 The blue/black/white combo looks quite sharp. I say, go for some polish and doo dads, that would make it a nice owner-operator rig.
jarretfan Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 your trucks are always amazing. it wont matter what you do to it it will look better than any i can build.
Jim B Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Tim, Excellent build, as usual. Are the sleeper extenders part of the kit or are they scratched? Also, if you were to scratch build them, what size sheet plastic would you use?
mse op Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 WOW WHAT A GREAT BUILT,I AM SPEECHLESS.............................. i like the extra details you put like c.b antennas and spot mirrors........ where did you get the chassis warning decals
crispy Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Tim, that is a beautiful looking truck! I hope when I finally get myself a rig I can get it to look half as good. I've been looking for a Peterbilt kit for awhile, but I'm being stingy with a price. Anyway, I love it. Thanks for sharing! Chris
phoneguy Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 as usual Tim,    WOW!!!! Jerry
Guest Guest_mackinac359_* Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Jim The sleeper extenders are part of the kit. Tim Tim, Excellent build, as usual. Are the sleeper extenders part of the kit or are they scratched? Also, if you were to scratch build them, what size sheet plastic would you use?
Guest Guest_mackinac359_* Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Thanks! The chassis warning decals are made from photographs of the real warning decals. I reduce them down to scale and print them on plain printing paper, glue them with Testors clear glue and the coat with Future Floor Finish to seal them. I have many of them posted on one of my Peterbilt webpages I think they are the bottom of this page I know there are mudflaps there. You can download the pics, save them and reduce them to size and print them out. lonewolf Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Sweet build as always Tim.You set the bar for the rest of us.Do you make your own air lines , or use aftermarket?
Casey429 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Looks good , Tim. Any owner-operator would be proud to drive that baby.
Guest Guest_mackinac359_* Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 These airlines were made from thin wire from wiring cables inside old computers. I coiled the wire around a thin rod and voila! Instant hoses/wires. Tim Sweet build as always Tim.You set the bar for the rest of us.Do you make your own air lines , or use aftermarket?
Old Albion Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Tim, This is one of the best builds I've seen you do. For me it ranks alongside your "Iron Pete" (My overall favourite) the matching yellow 359 and 352 day cab tractors with opening doors and the metalic blue 1987 359 with raised walk in sleeper. The little details like the spot mirrors, mud flaps, frame details look great. Will you be building the double trailers? I know a lot of people on the forum including myself would love to see you build a modern trailer set up as in the photo. Outstanding work! look forward to the next build.
mackinac359 Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 Chuck! THAT is the truck I based my model on! A photo from Hank's that I couldn't locate again. Thanks !! I was planning on a medium blue stripe but didn't have the vinyl on hand so I substituted black. Tim A real 378 SBFA
SpreadAxle Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 This is a very nice looking truck Tim. I like the window with the visor in the back. Pretty sharp.
chuckyr Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Chuck! THAT is the truck I based my model on! A photo from Hank's that I couldn't locate again. Thanks !! I was planning on a medium blue stripe but didn't have the vinyl on hand so I substituted black. Tim As you know already, Hank's site is a source of unlimited inspiration for truck modelers. I see trucks on that site I may never see in my lifetime, most notably, Euro trucks and antique trucks. I have so many truck ideas based on them in my mind, I may never get to all of them. Especially at the rate I'm going.
