Tom Setzer Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 On Friday we had a fire started by a candle in my Daughter's room that she left unattended while she brought her original Handicapped Cabbage Patch Kid. When she returned to her room it was on fire. The fire destroyed her room, and smoke got all through the house, and the Fire Department sprayed water all through out the the house. Friday night we wen,t to a motel to stay until we can find a place to live until the house is repaired, then on Saturday the fire flared up again doing more damage. When our son went the house on Sunday to see if he could get my medications and my dogs Heart Worm Pills, he said the windows had broken out and the ceilings had fallen. Then we were hit by the Tropical storm, bringing winds of as high as 70 miles per hour, and golf ball size hail in our neighbor hood, I haven't been able to go to the house so I'm worried about how much damage has been done. I hope the hail didn't damage my van as it is my only way of getting around. I hope the other members of the forum, that live in this area are all safe!
cobraman Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Sorry to hear about your troubles. Nobody was hurt , right ? Things will get better, they almost always do. Good luck.
mikemodeler Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Sorry to hear of your fire and subsequent damage but it sounds like everyone is okay, which is the most important thing! The house can be repaired, the belongings can be replaced, but family is what we all cherish. Hope they can get your house fixed quickly and life gets back to normal for you all soon!
camaroman Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Did not understand the part about the Cabbage Patch kid, But I am sorry to hear about the loss and damage of your home. If there is anything I can do, more than pray, please let me know!
MrObsessive Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Sorry to hear about the house! Having gone through a nasty flood back in September (the worst one in YEARS). I can certainly empathize with what you're going through! Thank goodness no one was hurt! Especially with a fire and all........... The biggest hassle I want to warn you will be with FEMA and the insurance company. Even more so will be with your bank if you're still paying a mortgage on it. I had to threaten mine with legal action, as they tried to deny that they ever got the paper work they wanted to release the money that was needed to get my place fixed. Just a heads up!
crazyjim Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Hope everything will get repaired quickly, Tom. We we're getting effects of Beryl yesterday (4" rain) and today. So far 2" more rain. Winds haven't been too bad.
XJ6 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 So stated that the Fire Flared up again on Saturday....A Day after the fire? seems to me the Fire Dept might have made a BIG Mistake..to say the least Anyway...Hope all goes well for you and Family. Cheers Don.
Guest Johnny Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 So stated that the Fire Flared up again on Saturday....A Day after the fire? seems to me the Fire Dept might have made a BIG Mistake..to say the least No, they didn't. In the time I was with the department we had three do this. You can spend hours there pouring water and overhauling rooms and still have a flareup the next day! An ember somewhere deep in something that is undetectable is all it takes sometimes. Tom! We will say a few prayers for you and yours and we hope everything works out for you. They always say when it rains it pours and in your case it came a hurricane!
