gtx6970 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 It's been a long time since I could say this. But I finished one. 1st completed model I've built in over 15 years. Although, Altereds are not exactly my style ( I am a primarly a super stock and funny car fan ) But I bought several of these many years ago when they were re-issued. I painted it back then,,,, then got bored with it and put it away. Now, fast foward to this past spring. I dug it out and decided I needed to finish something , and soon. It was supposed to be 100% box stock ( but that didn't work out so well. ) Just added plug wires and ran some fuel lines to jazz it up without going to crazy. I'll admit , It's far from my best build, and it has some issues. That I 'might' redo someday.( I have to admit,,,, not likely ) But overall I like it and it feels good to actually finish a model in a looooonnnnng time.
crazyjim Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I'm not an altered guy either but that puppy looks pretty good. Welcome back to the hobby.

gtx6970 Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 cool dragster is that the pure hell dragster from the 60s. Thanks to all. it felt good to finish one and have something new on the shelf. Although it sticks out like a sore thumb amongst super stock and funnycar builds. But this is the MPC / AMT re-issue that came out , maybe 10 years ago or so ?
DR JAY Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Great build! Old Wally Parks and his bunch cringed every time one of these weapons skated down an NHRA track, fearing insurance claims or worse. The Awful/Awful Fuel Altereds were eventually phased out, but the Marcellus and Borsch AA F/A remains one of the icons of drag racings early days when 354/392's and Muffler-Moly chassis were the norm. The nostalgia thing is kinda cool, but the sight of yellow-lettered slicks and supercharger retention straps, along with NHRA approved cages sure waters it down for those of us who prefer the good old days of pie-crust slicks and exhaust tube chassis.
