Jantrix Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I built this one as a kid and it was one of my favorite models that adorned my dresser top back in the 80's. Heaven knows what happened to it. I acquired an unbuilt kit in great shape a few years ago but it's just been sitting on the shelf. I've no idea how I want to build it. My only thought is to build it exactly as I had back then, as a lowrider (only better). If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears. There really isn't a whole lot of pics on the internet of this car either.
CorvairJim Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 The only idea I have, Rob, is to just send it to me! I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something to do with it!
Guest Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I would do exactly as you mentioned Rob. Build it like you did way back when, only better. I've built a few like that myself. Some I used the same colors.

PARTSMARTY Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 HOW ABOUT BUILDING IT LIKE A SHOWROOM STOCK.LOW MILES-HARDLY EVER DRVEN.MAYBE GOTTEN FROM A RELATIVE??
MrObsessive Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I'm usually not a big fan of big wheels and ribbon tires on a vintage '50's-'60's car--------but those look really sharp on that Starfire! I too had one of these kits way back in the early '80's, and I remember painting it with automotive paint with no primer. You guessed it------the plastic was crazed beyond belief! I didn't know any better back then as I was just building for a couple years then. I'd like to find one of those again...........Johan originals are getting very scarce nowadays unfortunately.
Guest Johnny Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 One of the guys I was in a band with while in HS had one black with oxblood interior! Loved that car!
Jantrix Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 HOW ABOUT BUILDING IT LIKE A SHOWROOM STOCK.LOW MILES-HARDLY EVER DRVEN.MAYBE GOTTEN FROM A RELATIVE?? I've given that a lot of thought, I've even gotten the original showroom ad and found the proper color used in the ad. However the kit is terrible detail-wise and the ability to kit-bash doing a hot rod or custom makes that less of an issue. Steve, I do love the red/black version. Maybe add modern wheels like Christian suggested?
Ron Hamilton Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 This is from wheelsareeverything.com Oh yeah!!!!!! I may have to do that with one of mine.
Jantrix Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Antonio, I've seen that build before. A stunning paint job. You need to finish it!
AzTom Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 If mine was not so clean I could see doing the red one.
Ryan S. Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 That red one is the business. This car looks great laid out low like that!
