Guest Anthony Oteri Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Boy does this new format suck! I wish it had a delete account option.

Modelbuilder1313 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 WOW, thats mighty harsh. Whats wrong with it, I happen to like it better, but I guess its true what they say. "You can't please them all"
Jim B Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Anthony, Don't hold back. Tell 'em how you real feel.
Guest Anthony Oteri Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Gregg said: May I ask why you say that? The old format was so familiar that you could use it easier. This is too different, there are too many options to choose from. It's like going from a point and shoot instamatic camera to a 35 mm Nikon. Simplier is better as far as I'm concerned. As for the option to delete one's account, There are times when it would be easier to just delete yourself instead of getting into a war of words with the ego's that have become regulars of the forum. As for Jim B, Fight your own battles, not mine. I can get in enough trouble on my own. I don't need any help, especially from you. You might want to work on your model building skills instead of trying to add fuel to the fire.
Jim B Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Anthony, Sorry. I didn't mean to add fuel to the fire. Please acept my apology.
ratrodder Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 It will be o-k once we learn the changes, No one ever likes changes but we must accept them sometimes and just go on. That's what life is all about. ratrodder doug

Jairus Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Anthony, PM me anytime you want something deleted! I will be happy to accommodate you.
Guest Guest_rottin1_* Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I like it better also. It looks more organized and friendlier to me. Anthony: Your builds are nice and your work is also nice. But why would you berate someone on their modeling skills, just because they had an opinion on your remarks. That's not good at all. Actually it's shamefull to put someone down. If you don't like it , leave it! We can't help if your computer illiterate. Just my 2 cents worth. Have a great day!!
Billy Kingsley Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Anthony, go read the post I just made in the main section...It's a step by step guide to the new features! It took 40 minutes to type, somebody better read it!
scubadiver411 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I just posted this in the "Ask G&J" section, but since everyone is talking about this here, I thought I would re-type it here.... I, too, miss the old look of the forums, the main thing I miss is the "check" marks that let you know of new topics or new reply's. Being color-blind, I have a hard time distinguishing between the colors of the "suitecases" that are next to the topics, and they don't tell me if someone new has posted a "new" reply to a topic that I'm following. Whereas, on the old page, I would look for a "check-mark" and go right to that topic I was watching to see what some of the comments or updates have been posted. I too am basically computer illiterate when it comes to changes in the computer world, especially when you become accustomed to something and then it up and changes on you. The main reason that I switched from the "other" forum was because the people here are a lot more respectful of your models, I don't see hardly any negative feedback, cut-downs, or nit-picking the small little details. Everyone builds there models the way they envision them, and the people here seem to respect that more on this forum. STEVE
rottin1 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I wanted to delete this post. Can't figure out how to do that.
rottin1 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Steve: What "other" forum are you speaking of? I too belonged to "another" forum. Most of the people were "ok", some of them were put up on pedestal's so high you would have thought they were god! Just curious to what "other" forum you were speaking of! No problem if you don't answer that, I completely understand.
scubadiver411 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Johnny... From my experience and with several people that I have been in contact with on this forum thru PM's, the other forum (SA) has several individuals in each forum that are their own self-appointed.. . Anyway, I have had people tell me that my model was not technically the 'right' color, but what they don't understand is... I'm color blind and can not see the different shades of color, and I didn't have an airbrush to go get the correct color from the local auto store, or that I didn't have enough money to dish out to get the correct color. What I am trying to say is.... this forum is more RESPECTFUL to the other modelers and give more POSITIVE feedback, rather than NEGATIVE comments and feedback. I still go to that other forum to see what has been built (some of which I have already seen here), but I typically do not post anything on the other forum, just because of the self-appointed @#$%^ This is just one man's opinion and does not refleck the opinions of the other modeler's that I have spoken to. Just my $.02 worth STEVE

STEVE Steve, thanks for pointing that out I don't like the folder color system myself. I am looking at new skins to see what would work I will keep that in mind. THanks!!!
Old Albion Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hmmm!!! This new forum is different. I'm just trying to navigate my way around it. Looks like there are a lot more options available. I used to like the old forum especially the little thing that let you know that there were new posts. Can this be incorporated into the new forum? Question for the Administrators. Why change to the new Forum?? Is it because the old forum is out of date and no longer supported with Software etc. Or is it for the additional features?? Or some other reason? I like this forum, the people and the trucks. Its great to see the skills of others and to comunicate with people who have a genuine interest in the same things as myself. I first encountered the Model car magazine forum by clicking the link on Tim's web site, since then I keep a regular daily check on all posts, because I like what I see and I'm interested and want to learn from others. I,m sure it will take a while to get used to it but we'll get there.
crispy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 The more I use it the better it becomes. I like it myself. As with the suitcases I see they are red when it's a new topic. If you posted in the topic it receives a small corner patch. Chris

I changed to this software for a number of reasons, the first being to get rid of those annoying spammers who register more than a couple of dozen times a day It was free software, so everyone and his cousin had it, and hackers were able to right scripts that got around the registration requirements. Plus, there are a ton of new features that will be great for everyone Everyone can have their own photo gallery, their on blog, online calendar, and much more.
scubadiver411 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Are there going to be "tutorials" on how to use this new set-up for the computer challenged I think having your own photo album right here on site would be a lot easier than minimizing this screen to bring up another screen etc.... STEVE

STEVE Billy Kingsley wrote a good overview of the forum: I thought I'd whip up some tips and hints to help people better make use of all this new board has to offer. Segment One: Post making additions 1) We have all new emoticons, or smileys. They are different from the PhP forum and several of them move. 2) You now have the ability to put in a small description of your thread when you start it. This is optional but it may help people decided if they wish to view your thread or not. 3) Insertable objects: All the insertibles from the old board remain, but several have been added on top of that! Here are some new features : You can now center text. You can now right align text. I don't know why you'd want or need to but you can. You can use the Spoiler feature, which works great if talking about the most recent race or anything else that some folks may not want to see right away. (Hint: Highlight the black box) You can insert acronyms, although I can't comprehend why someone would use code to type out "Laugh Out Load" to make it appear as LOL, instead of just typing LOL. But, you could do it if you wanted to! There are now 19 different fonts to use! And 40 different colors! And, as you can tell, you now have the capability to add lists to your posts! There is also a spell checker but it needs to be downloaded to your hard drive, something I’m not fond of. 4) You can now add post icons to your post. They are smiley faces and the like that appear on the actual board, not just in the message. 5) The attachment system looks totally different, but I don't need to use that because I have a Fotki account, so I can't give any help or ideas with that. Sorry. Section 2: Your Profile If you've clicked on anyone's name since the board moved, you can see that the profile sections looks totally different. 6) You now have the ability to post a personal photo. This is separate from your avatar, and must be hosted on your computer. It must also be pretty small, I use the thumbnail size version from Fotki. People see this when they view your profile and they also see this when the pull down the small box at your name with each post (I'll get to that later on) 7) Info: Underneath your photo you have the option of showing various personal info or whatever you want to be seen. You can post a personal comment, a link to your website (HINT: If you have more then one website, put the link in your personal comment space), your real name, your status on the board, and your age. Your interests appear there too, and the new feature of what scale you build. It has only room for one, though. Underneath that is your board statistics, listing when you joined, how many times your profile has been viewed, your last activity on the board, your local time (which is set to California time automatically, I've not tried to change it yet but I'm sure you can set it to your local time), how many posts you've made and the average of how many you post per day. Below that is your messenger information. It has space for AOL, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN messengers. At the very bottom of that column in the left is the "send message" tag, which you use to send a "PM". Many of these things are optional, although not all. 8) Threads. In the middle of your profile screen is a showing of the threads you've started, by default. It shows 4 but I don't think they are my most recent 4 in that one is over a year old and I know I've started more threads then that! You can, however, click through the various tabs at the top of the thread section and see other things. You can see: All posts you've made A gallery of images you've uploaded to the board itself (NOT images you have linked to on a remote host like Fotki) Your own personal blog Comments people can leave for you to see Your friends list (More on this later) and "My Content", which you can use to edit some of the things I've just described. 9) Friends and visitors. On the far right hand side of your screen, you can see the most recent people who have visited your profile. This updates when someone clicks on it, unlike most things that need a refresh to be seen. I don't know how many it holds, because only 2 people have looked at my profile on the new forum! Underneath that, you can see comments people leave for you. Below that, you see a list of friends. All the above in this section can be toggled by clicking the "My Controls" at the very top right of any page on the message board. That leads me into Segment Three: Additional features 10) When you read someone's post, you can move your mouse or cursor over to the person's name at the top of the their post. A small shadowbox appears with an arrow at the right. Click that. It gives you several options. From there, you can: Look at their profile Add them as a friend send them a private message find the topics they have started find the most recent posts they have made. 11) Additionally, in your Control Panel, if there is someone you don't like or has cheated you on a deal or whatever the case may be, you can block them...meaning, you don't see their posts on the message board until you choose to un-block them. You can also stop people from sending you Private Messages if you wish. You CANNOT, however, block administrators or moderators. 12) When looking at a post, at the very top right there is an "Options" button. If you click on that you can: Subscribe to the topic (so it is very easy to find later) email the topic print the topic download the topic to your computer And do some stuff I'm not sure on yet: Subscribe to the forum Switch to Outline+ Switch to Linear+ The terms "Topic", "Thread" and "Post" are all interchangeable, by the way. I hope that helps you better understand, enjoy, and utilize all the features this new board has to offer. It's new now but in time I'm sure you'll find the features to far exceed the ones that the old PhP forum had. Thanks! Billy -------------------- Billy Kingsley http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/
