gautreau Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Does anyone have a how to convert 2 shortbed's into one longbed? With diagrams and or measurements would be great.I need to build a longbed pick-up for a friend and I'm unsure of where to cut the beds up. Thanx in advance, Jeremy
martinfan5 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 With out knowing what truck bed you want to lengthen, you need to extend the bed in the area from the front of the bed to front of the wheel well
gautreau Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 Sorry I should have mentioned that I'm using 2 amt/ertl 1984 GMC kits to build this replica longbed pick-up.
Fat Brian Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) How you cut depends on what brand of truck you are building. Ford trucks add all of the extra length at the front of the bed ahead of the rear wheels. Chevy and GMC add about a foot to the front and a few inches in the rear. here are some examples of what I mean. Here are two Ford beds showing the extra length: Here is a long bed GMC I made from two Fall Guy trucks, I had to add to the front and rear of the bed: I used a long bed from the 72 Chevy kit to get the correct length and proportion: Edited June 11, 2012 by Fat Brian
