The old guys here might appreciate these. These are all old builders I've picked up over the last 10-12 years in hopes to redo some day.

Problem is, I can't bring myself to take them apart. I take them off the shelf once in a while to take them aprt and redo them,,,, but end up just wiping off the dust and put them back.

They're far from prefect and the pictures make them look so much better than they really are. But they have character and in my mind shows how well( or lack of ) built cars back before we had all the nice detail supplies of today.

Window trim is simple silver brush paint. For spark plug wires / engine wiring , we raided moms sewing box for different color thread. For fuel lines and battery cables , we raided dads tool chest for some thin wire.

I can't take credit for any of them , all were bought exactly the way you see them here. I don't think any were from the same sellers. So I guess we just all had similar styles and actually had to do some thinking to set ourselves apart from all our building buddies.

None are perfect, and since my ownership i've tried to clean them the best I can without damaging decals or details, The ones with window trim and wiper blades highlighted are done with silver paint. There is no bare metal foil on any of them .

Enjoy

1st off the original MPC Sox and Martin Duster. This one doesn't have an engine in it. maybe some day it will again. Other than the roof and hood scoop none of the body is painted, it's all kit decals.

MPC Don Carlton Duster pro stock kit.

Painted in some kind of dull black, the hood fits like ###### and I think I may have to raid the parts box to fix that missing tail light though. This one I think has Fred Cady decals on it, although I'm not 100% certain either way

Another MPC Don Carlton Pro stock kit. This time the 1972 Cuda kit. Body is molded in black plastic and unpainted . Interior was poorly hand painted in some kind of nasty looking yellow. I think I may have to change that some day soon though.Otherwise it's built 100 % right out of the box and actually makes decent looking piece on the shelf.

Next, the Johan 'Fast Eddie ' Schartman Comet stocker. I think its painted in cheap testors yellow and original kit decals. With the afore mentioned ' raided ' underhood detail supplies. Although I don't consider myself a Ford/Mercury fan,, this is one of my favorites and I bought it exactly the way you see it , maybe ???? 10 years ago . As Old race cars are where my main interests lie. Plus,,,This one just looks 'cool' .

Last but certaintly not least.

Original MPC 1972 Duster. Arlen Vanke kit.

This is another one with said same raided underhood details, and the original kit decals .

Comments are welcome and actually encouraged.

For all the old timers reading this, If you have builders from your youth that survived the firecrackers and lighter fluid days,,,,,,, PLEASE show them off with pride.

Thanks again.

Very cool Bill, as you know I love those Dusters. I am not "old" ,but I certainly appreciate old stuff that has stood the test of time. I recently found the first model kit I remember building, the '58 Plymouth Fury Christine pro mod.

Bill,Thanks for posting these!!!

I remember building the Vanke kit many many years ago.You did a much better job on it than I did!!

You should really think about redoing them.you could probably sell all of them on the Evil site,as there are a lot of people buying the old kits built or not!!

Very cool! When I got back in the hobby about 8 months ago, one of the 1st things l did was steal about 3 ft. of white thread from my wife. tied it to a hanger & sprayed it yellow then ran it between my thumb & fore finger to "set" the paint in. l now had plug wires. l quickly discovered pre-wired dizzys, but still have my 3 ft. of yellow plug wire....just in case, lol!

Bill , Those are so sweet ! If they were mine I would dust them occassionally and put them back on the shelf . They may not be your builds , but they are still a little piece of history . I still have several that I built back in '69 - '72 boxed up . I take them out occasionally just to look . Some pieces have fallen off , but I have no intention of rebuilding them .

Thanks fellas

Believe me, I've attempted several times to take them apart for a redo, But I always just end up dusting them off , maybe reglue some small loose parts and then just put them back on the shelf. So deep down I know they will stay just the way they are.

As far as Ebaying them ? . not a chance,,,,,,,,,,,, these are not for sale . They're probably the worst condition cars on my dispaly shelf, but they are easily the ones that get the most attention when friends see them.
