I know by the title of this post you must think I'm an idiot. "There are tons of places on line that sell Bare Metal, what's wrong with this guy?" So, let me clarify; I'm looking for an on line source for Bare Metal Foil that doesn't charge an exorbitant fee for postage.

In the way of a little background; I went to my local hobby shop and for some reason that I can't figure out the manager feels the need to stock about 12 sheets of the copper foil but no chrome. When I asked him about it I got a blank stare as if he was thinking "Chrome? They make a chrome foil? You mean somebody might want chrome foil?"

Okay, so I can't rely on this guy, no problem, I'll just order some on line. Now I don't mind paying the $6.50 or so that most of them charge for the foil, but $8.00, $9.00, and even $10.00 to ship it to me? Really?

So back to my original question; anybody know where I can get this stuff AND pay a reasonable shipping charge?

You can still order direct from Bare Metal Foil Co.. They charge $6.75 per sheet, and shipping should be about six bucks for Priority mail. At one time ehobbies had a deal where you got free shipping on any order over x amount, but I'm not sure if that was a policy or a special promotion.

Their shipping charges depend on your location. I tried it, shipping to me was over ten bucks! Which is a blatant ripoff, IMO.

When you order from BMF, make sure you don't use the UPS shipping or else it will be around $12. Choose USPS and shipping will be much cheaper.

Did you choose UPS ground or USPS? I punched in Drew's zip code, chose Priority and got $6.35- fifteen cents more than it would cost for me in Michigan.

That was my experience too Harry. I went to the Bare Metal site first. Total for one sheet of chrome with shipping was $17.00!

I passed.

Right back at ya.

Geez, bill me a legitimate charge for postage, but don't ask me to fund your operation for the next month!

Drew, try ebay. You might find a deal.

You have to choose Priority shipping when you check out. Otherwise, it will automatically choose UPS for you.

I got the same shipping quote for $ 6.35 to your zip code via USPS

What he said. It would cost me over ten bucks to order it and have it shipped UPS as well, and I'm in the same state. Just over six bucks with Priority or Parcel Post.

Why should it cost 6 bucks (or more) to mail a sheet of BMF???

Harry, I have no idea, but thats about the same as Model express is charging, maybe because the sellers are not making any money on the foil, so they are charging more for shipping to make up for it.

$8.99 free shipping

Because they ship it inside a flat box to keep the foil from getting bent up during shipping. In the two times I've ordered from an online vendor (never again) my foil came in an envelope and already had cracks and wrinkles in it. I've always received a perfect sheet of foil from BMF.

Again, what he said. Closest shop to me who carries BMF is 40 miles away, so I order it direct quite a bit. I've never gotten a damaged sheet that way, but I've gotten sheets from other online vendors that looked like they'd been run through a shredder.
