2002p51 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I know by the title of this post you must think I'm an idiot. "There are tons of places on line that sell Bare Metal, what's wrong with this guy?" So, let me clarify; I'm looking for an on line source for Bare Metal Foil that doesn't charge an exorbitant fee for postage. In the way of a little background; I went to my local hobby shop and for some reason that I can't figure out the manager feels the need to stock about 12 sheets of the copper foil but no chrome. When I asked him about it I got a blank stare as if he was thinking "Chrome? They make a chrome foil? You mean somebody might want chrome foil?" Okay, so I can't rely on this guy, no problem, I'll just order some on line. Now I don't mind paying the $6.50 or so that most of them charge for the foil, but $8.00, $9.00, and even $10.00 to ship it to me? Really? So back to my original question; anybody know where I can get this stuff AND pay a reasonable shipping charge?
Harry P. Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Look on ebay. You might find cheap or even free shipping.
Chuck Most Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) You can still order direct from Bare Metal Foil Co.. They charge $6.75 per sheet, and shipping should be about six bucks for Priority mail. At one time ehobbies had a deal where you got free shipping on any order over x amount, but I'm not sure if that was a policy or a special promotion. Edited June 25, 2012 by Michigan Madman

Their shipping charges depend on your location. I tried it, shipping to me was over ten bucks! Which is a blatant ripoff, IMO.
Guest Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 When you order from BMF, make sure you don't use the UPS shipping or else it will be around $12. Choose USPS and shipping will be much cheaper.
jeffs396 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Sure sounds like a GOOD excuse to place a larger order (kits) from a mail order site Drew!
martinfan5 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Model express shipping is $5.65, I think police car models shipping is $2.00, not 100 % sure though
martinfan5 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Just tired BMF site, cheapest shipping to me is $6.90

Did you choose UPS ground or USPS? I punched in Drew's zip code, chose Priority and got $6.35- fifteen cents more than it would cost for me in Michigan.

That was my experience too Harry. I went to the Bare Metal site first. Total for one sheet of chrome with shipping was $17.00! I passed.

Right back at ya. Geez, bill me a legitimate charge for postage, but don't ask me to fund your operation for the next month! Drew, try ebay. You might find a deal.
slusher Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 l buy mine on ebay and get free shipping, some real good honny shops on ebay also...Slusher

martinfan5 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 That was my experience too Harry. I went to the Bare Metal site first. Total for one sheet of chrome with shipping was $17.00! I passed. I got the same shipping quote for $ 6.35 to your zip code via USPS
Chuck Most Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 You have to choose Priority shipping when you check out. Otherwise, it will automatically choose UPS for you. What he said. It would cost me over ten bucks to order it and have it shipped UPS as well, and I'm in the same state. Just over six bucks with Priority or Parcel Post.
Harry P. Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I got the same shipping quote for $ 6.35 to your zip code via USPS Why should it cost 6 bucks (or more) to mail a sheet of BMF???
Fat Brian Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 $6.50+$2.20 shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bare-Metal-Foil-Chrome-foil-sheet-/350572940548?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519fc68d04
martinfan5 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Why should it cost 6 bucks (or more) to mail a sheet of BMF??? Harry, I have no idea, but thats about the same as Model express is charging, maybe because the sellers are not making any money on the foil, so they are charging more for shipping to make up for it. $8.99 free shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bare-Metal-Foil-Co-New-Improved-Chrome-Foil-Sheet-Ships-Free-In-US-BMF1-/180912970815?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1f40dc3f Edited June 25, 2012 by martinfan5
Guest Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Why should it cost 6 bucks (or more) to mail a sheet of BMF??? Because they ship it inside a flat box to keep the foil from getting bent up during shipping. In the two times I've ordered from an online vendor (never again) my foil came in an envelope and already had cracks and wrinkles in it. I've always received a perfect sheet of foil from BMF.

Again, what he said. Closest shop to me who carries BMF is 40 miles away, so I order it direct quite a bit. I've never gotten a damaged sheet that way, but I've gotten sheets from other online vendors that looked like they'd been run through a shredder.
2002p51 Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Drew, try ebay. You might find a deal. I did and I did! Thanks!
MAGNUM4342 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I was going to say ebay too. Congrats on a deal Drew.
martinfan5 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 The last time I bought BMF was from PCM, IIRC, it was shipped in a cardboard envelope and arrived in good condition
Edsel-Dan Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I tried to order direct once. Four sheets, or only ONE, Shipping was $12.oo I Did Not see anywhere to change shipper/level
