foxbat426 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I layed down a coat of clear on a 69 GTO i'm doing. I guess it was a little to thick or I put on too much and have some minor orange peeling, especially on the hood and trunk - How should I handle it to smooth it out?? Otherwise it came out pretty nice. I should have thinned it a bit more when i airbrushed it. oh well. Thanks! john
cobraman Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 If it's not too bad I would wet sand it out then polish. Maybe if you get it smooth you may want to ad a couple more light coats of clear and then wet sand and polish. I'm sure it can be saved if not too bad. Make sure it is 100 % dry before doing any sanding.
W-409 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) Just Polish the paint job. I don't know, how much Orange Peel you have there, but the problem should be solved with Polishing. I started with 3000 grit on this Nova body, it wasn't very good starting point, but I'm very happy about the end result. After Polishing: Edited June 27, 2012 by W-409
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Yup, and use this, with plenty of water. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-Mesh-2-square-foam-Sanding-Pads-Made-in-USA-/320868289884?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab53d8d5c Start with the coarsest first, work your way to the finest. I usually finish up with a rubout using 3M Perfect It 6068 polish at the end. Do it right and it'll look like glass.
