TedsModeling Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 An online customer asked if TDR would make a Liberty transmission. I inquired and sure enough, Tim said he could do if he had the information. I think I can get the info he needs and I'm wondering if anybody would want one? He could start with 1/16 and then go up. Here are some photos.
Bonekrosha Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Yup, I'd want one provided it wasn't priced through the roof
eviltwincustoms Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) I would be interested. Bonekrosha, You may want to be a bit more specific as to what you consider through the roof for price... Because what you consider may be lower than what I would consider high/expensive. Since these parts are 3D printed they are going to be a bit more expensive. How about that Liberty shifter that is what I would like to get a hold of! Edited June 27, 2012 by eviltwincustoms
TedsModeling Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 I'll let Tim know and he can get started on it. Since there are less pieces to this compared to a Lenco, the price would have to be lower. His charge is based on cubic inches of material and the type of material. For the best detail, it would have to be the same 'Frosted Ultra Detail' as the Lenco. A 2-speed Lenco with Reverse is $30. That shifter would be awesome. Maybe one of the photoetch guys could make this and we could add the arms. Here are some detailed photos.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Ted....you're spot on about having it printed in the F.U.D. material.....especially in 1/16th scale. True...... it costs a little more than the less expensive material but the time saved in sanding is well worth the cost difference. I ordinarily use the cheaper printed parts (only) for things like engine blocks etc. where I want the sand cast finish to show. Parts that are supposed to have a "smooth, polished" finish, F.U.D. is the way to go....you don't wind up knocking all that wonderful detail off by sanding and save yourself a bunch of finishing time. As far as the cost goes....it is what it is, as you've said the price is controlled by the type and amount of material used in the printing process. Edited June 29, 2012 by GrandpaMcGurk
midengineaddict Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I love buying parts... I will buy one and the photoetch shifter...
Bonekrosha Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Yeah, I'd spend $30 on it for a certain project I've got in mind. Having the shifter & linkage would definately be awesome, I'd almost rather buy that and scratch myself out a tranny
eviltwincustoms Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Ted by chance do you have the original photos of the Liberty shifter that can be blown up? I would like to see the blown apart picture up close. Might have to see how feasible a mechanical one would be to build by hand.
TedsModeling Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Bart - TDR is also looking into making the shifter. Is there a web site I can upload files to, so that others can download them? Otherwise PM me with your email address and I'll send what I have. Paul Evoy is getting some info this tranny. Does anybody else have access to a real one for measurements?
Mr.1/16th Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Count me in for a few of them too!! 1/16th and 1/6th scale!
TedsModeling Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Looks like TDR is not making this as soon as we hoped. He said he is overwhelmed with work at the moment and won't have time for a few months. I'll post something here as soon I get it.
futurattraction Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Ted, I was finally able to get dimensions off a 5-speed and am going to start working on both the trans and PE shifter.
1930fordpickup Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Would TDR consider printing these with a hollow center to keep the price down ?
TedsModeling Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Andy - TDR would make it hollow already. We wouldn't be able to afford it if it was solid. I've emailed TDR to see if they might change their minds, but if Scott is working on one, we should go with that.
stump Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Oh yes....I am so down for one or two of these..... I may have to wait for TDR to catch up though, as I will most likely need a 1/12 version....
