turn1wonder Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I've been inspired by this thread... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27328&hl= I think I will try a exact copy of the 1:1 car but first I'm going to do a build on an unmodified SCCA kit chassis, hopefully I've learned stuff from my other similar build that is stalled at the moment. Some of the things I want to do on this build are altering the body's wheel openings to fit the chassis, pinching the grill/headlight opening, adding the hood and rear side vents and having the option of 3 different wings These first pics will show some forward and backward steps. Cut out some discs and centered them on the axles... ...slicing the hood and fenders to bend them down... ...
turn1wonder Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) ...first primer coat... ...first sanding and separating of the main pieces... ...second primer... I discovered that the epoxy that I used never did get hard so I had to do some "dentistry"... ...and a second sanding... Bob Edited June 28, 2012 by turn1wonder

Hedgehog Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Great magnificent I've got plenty of coockies and tea to enjoy while I see your creation being built It's looking awesome
turn1wonder Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 UPDATE Aug 23 What I have so far. Only unmodified parts so far are the front and rear glass...and I will be cutting the front glass and have not decided on the rear glass yet. I can post some in-work pics if anyone is interested but most of them will show what did not work to my satisfaction.

Pat Minarick Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Really starting to take shape! That sure is a lot of body work.
IMSANUT Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Cool. There was a Mustang at this years June Sprints at Road America in the SCCA GT 1 class that is very similar. Good luck with the rest of the build!
turn1wonder Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Thank you all very much for the comments! Here are some in-work pics from earlier. Used a compass to mark what I wanted the cut them out with a drum sander on a rotary tool... ...glued them on then used the kitchen counter top to set them at 90 degrees... ...then bondo'd them on... ...
turn1wonder Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) .Thanks Ray. Sanded off most of what I put on... Sanding super glue, the dust really hurts the eyes. Looking at my safety glasses shows how it sticks to everything... When I started sanding all that bondo I was clean-shaven... Edited September 5, 2012 by turn1wonder
