stevez Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Sorry if this is off topic, but just read the review of these paints, designed primarily for cars, over at IPMS Nat website. Here is the link, they seem like game changers. http://web.ipmsusa3.org/content/alclad-ii-candy-enamels
JunkPile Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 More and more Alclad products seem to be finding their way into my paint cabinet. All of their product finishes seem to just have "that look"
Jantrix Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 (edited) Hmm.........most true candies require a base of gold or silver. It doesn't mention this in the instructions on this link. Interesting. EDIT - Nevermind. Their silver is called "base". Edited June 29, 2012 by Jantrix
Lownslow Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 i decided to try it out and im impressed i plan on buying the whole set basecoat Candied(2 coats)
Dr. Cranky Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 That's a nice color, Frank. Is it that shiny, or did you put clear on it?

crazyjim Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Did I hear/read somewhere that colors come out looking mottled? Sure can't see it on yours, Frank.
mikemodeler Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Don't let Donn Yost see those, he will have to create another DVD for me to buy! Thanks for sharing them, they look killer and would be perfect for a custom paint job.
northendmetalallstar Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I picked up the Alclad " Bright Silver Base" and Kandy Orange today at my LHS. I was a little surprised to see the the directions, which said to spray the silver base directly on "clean, bare plastic"... Do they really mean for you to NOT PRIME the car body? That just seems so wrong!! Or is the silver base a kind of primer? Just wondering what other people's experiences have been. And should I or can I use a clear coat at the end??
vypurr59 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I have not used the candies, but I assume that they want a smooth base coat.
grt222 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Has anybody here tried them? I ordered some and was wondering how they worked. Also do they come ready to spray or do they have to be thinned for airbrushing? I will also be using the alclad base coat. Thanks for any input.
JunkPile Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Using the candy red on current project. Has given me some issues (what doesn't). Looks way cool. Yes it is ready to spray. Still have plans for it on next build.
72 Charger Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 If your to put it on bare plastic does that mean that you cant go over any body work /filler?
JunkPile Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 More research at my end will reveal more about this paint system
