cobraman Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 (edited) My next project will be this Thunderbird kit. It will be a mild custom but mostly stock. Body is painted but still needs to be polished. Wheels are done. Motor has been started but still more to go. The interior will be White Lightning with gray flocking for the carpet. I think I will be cutting down the windshield and frame but I am not sure yet. It will be lowered and i won't be using the skirts. Thanks for looking. Edited July 3, 2012 by cobraman
cobraman Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Got some more done on the "bird". Body was polished and the interior and chassis are just about done. I want to cut down the windshield to make it have the "Speedster" look but I know cutting the clear plastic can be tricky and it can crack pretty easy but I think I will give it a try anyway.
TooOld Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 A cut - down windshield would look great on this bird ! I say "go for it !" . Take your time with a razor saw or cut-off wheel on a Dremel and don't force it . Also cover the entire windshield with masking tape to protect it . Use real masking tape , not blue painters tape . It will actually add some strength to the plastic and help stop any flexing ( bad ) that will occur .
cobraman Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Thanks for the tip Bob. I will try that. I have broken windshields before but I really want to do it for this build. If it breaks I guess I can always make a new one. : )
cobraman Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 I did manage to cut down the windshield without cracking it. In spite of the fact I did have it masked on both sides I did have one slip of the saw ( idiot ) and put a line in the window. It's not too bad but I don't think it will all polish out. Oh well, my record is safe I have still not built the perfect model. You would think that after 50 years of building I would have it down by now. I do not.
John Teresi Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Ray.......looking good.......keep up the great work.
charlie8575 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 The perfect model will never be built, Ray. Just a simple fact of life. However, there will always be good and great models. Yours is well on the way to being very good. Charlie Larkin
cobraman Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 T-bird is done. If interested there will be some photos in the Under Glass section soon.
