The Creative Explorer Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I made my own vacform device today and even though I was eager to work on some projects, I took my time and prepared. Unfortunately, I am not happy with the first tests and I was hoping if I can get some hints and tips from you guys. This is my vacformer: Simply nothing more than a upside down barbecue and a vacuumcleaner. The problems I face: -Plastic not smooth, riples in it -Vacuum not tight enough -Losing details in the lower part of the body. Some pictures of projects I did today: This was actually my very first attempt:
crazyjim Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Peter Lombardo could probably help you. I don't know if he's been around lately, though.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 1) I think your vacuum is a little low, and you may be asking your sheet plastic to draw too far. 2) On your second pull, the plastic is sealing itself on the ridges on top of the body and roof and shutting off the vacuum to pull the wrinkles out of the center. Try more heat, more vacuum, or cutting relief slots on your molds to allow the air to escape.
my66s55 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 go to this web site and learn how to properly do what you want to achieve. I know the answer, but your desired results can be better found here: http://www.tk560.com...ewforum.php?f=1
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Wow my66s55, cool site. I'll be researching there for sure. Many thanks. All the answers in one place.
rel14 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Don't know much about it, but i do know from reading, the body needs to be off the surface a 1/4-1/2 inch so the Plastic can seal to the bottom edge of the body. Learned that the hard way also.. ( If your making a junk yard scene ya got some good banged up bodys to start with) Up the heat, and move vacuum.. some of them use a vacuum tank to get a good fast pull.. plastic cools off if ya go to slow..
