i just picked up an R&R Vacumn Craft resin body kit for the klassik kustom El Matador coupe.

I am not sure what kit to use as a base kit. what i bought includes body with separate hood and interior bucket and pieces.

i was thinking maybe an AMT 40 Ford if i can find one (whats the latest reissue of it?) or maybe the Revell 40 Ford that is just being reissued as i understand it.

i have always loved this kustom and cant wait to get into it!

I would use the Revell '40, as it should be better detailed than the old AMT kit. I'm not sure what was done to the El Matador's suspension, but if it's close to stock, you could use the ProModeler '40 Ford convertible of the more recent '40 Ford standard coupe kit:

Hi I have that Resin kit and the doner is the AMT 40 Ford you can still find them at Modelexpress.com or Deanshobbystop.com or the old spotlighthobbys site they run any were form $11.95 to $19.95 it depends on the box art.Good luck the Resin needs a lot of tlc but it,s worth it when it,s done.Rick.

thanks rick, thats sort of what i was thinking since the revell 40 ford wasnt around when this resin body was developed, i would guess anyway.

are you the guy who built the one i saw recently, must have been in the NNL East coverage in this months model cars mag?

wanted to give an update, got the El Matador today and while the body is nice and smooth and no serious pinholes or other problems, the chassis is pretty pathetic, thin, poorly detailed etc. I am hoping the AMT chassis will replace it but havent gotten one yet to check. I understand the AMT chassis leaves quite a bit to be desired, eg: metal axles, molded in detail including exhaust system etc. I remember when i was a kid i would just glue the new "kustom" exhaust system right over the existing chassis detail but of course that aint gonna cut it in the 2000s!

so, body nice, interior passable, fits well and the tuck and roll engraving is ok, seats and headrests will take some work but the chassis has gotta go. and while the body exteriorly is "nice", inside its a bit of a different story and it will do with some dremel therapy to get it down to workable thickness, and some epoxy to fill and strengthen the gaps and bubbles inside.

The '40 Sedan Delivery should work too- those seem to be a bit easier to find (and a lil' bit cheaper) than the AMT coupe. They have essentially the same chassis- in fact they might actually be the same chassis. They're pretty close anyway. The '39/40 Tudor should work too, though I think the chassis is a bit different in that kit (still has molded exhaust if I remember, though).
