charlie8575 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I've never heard of this before. Good thing to know. Charlie Larkin
Casey Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Someone posted this a few years ago, as I recall thinking I would try it, but never did. The months-long waiting period for the mold to cure was a bit of a deterrent for me.
my66s55 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Smooth-On shows you what to use and how to do this right on there web site: http://www.smooth-on.com/faq_display.php?faq_id=79&cID=2
Repstock Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Anyone want to try this with the 1/20 Econoline kit?
Lownslow Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 i should reword that the current wheel was actually upscaled by soaking the mold in naphta ive yet to shrink a mold
Lownslow Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 What percentage did the wheel increase by? not sure it went from 13" to 21"
Casey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 How long did it soak (totally covered/submerged) in acetone? Shrinking doesn't have much use to me, but enlarging molds would be very handy.

Casey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Sorry, naptha. I will definitely be trying this. Let us know if the mold life is shortened or otherwise affected by the naptha. How long had the mold cured before you enlarged it with the naptha?

How long had the mold cured before you enlarged it with the naptha? didnt want you desintergrading a mold either lol, the stuff i use is mold max it has yet to cause a negative effect even after reverting to its old size. oomoo30 stayed enlarged and the mold became brittle after 2 castings. dont know how other compounds react as i dont have them on hand ive yet to try a 2 piece mold
Casey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I have plenty of molds to try it on, so no worries there. I suppose once a new, enlarged master is created, the mold it came from will no longer be needed anyway.

How long before the mold started contracting again? thanks-epi
