blueoval92 Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 (edited) 2nd layer sanded down, 1st coat of regular primer sprayed on. not to many holes. still have to do some more work on the front but coming along well, still have to sand and round the front corners of the hood to fit and to cut down the rear deck. decided to fill in the door seams and handles. guess im kind of going for a street cruiser/ lowrider look. whatever it is i hope yall like it. had to cut up a small piece to fit a hole inside the front bumper, will hopefully have the remainder of the body work done tomorrow. blueoval92 Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) did some more work on it today finally, got a good coat of filler primer, still have some filler and sanding left to do but its getting real close to a coat of sealer and some tamiya mica red. decided to give it a little more custom touch by removing the wipers and filling in the louvers still some filler on this corner. this will make filler layer 4. giving me a little bit of trouble but i think i can get it this time. GerN Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Customs can be very demanding. Often a change will have unexpected consequences, and/or you'll see the project in a new way as work progresses. For me at least, fast construction just doesn't happen. This looks good, so keep going!
blueoval92 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 thanks. im being sure to take my time so i can do it right and to help me learn how to do it better. not sure how much i will get done this weekend with the festivals around here starting up.
blueoval92 Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 well finally got some work done after the weekend i had. got the filler sanded down on the front fenders and some finish sanding around the door handles. i also got some more work done on my booth. got my resevoir made and dug out a compressor i had that needed a little work and got it going again. plan to attach my fans and blower and run the flew duct tomorrow if i can manage to get to it. pics to come. i keep forgetting to charge my camera.
blueoval92 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 decided to fill in and blend the body lines on the front end. got them filled and 1st round of sanding done and coated with filler primer. sitting in oven now. will start making trunk and hood ledges after primer is dry. finally got a little break in between festivals but am going camping for labor day so trying to get what i can done. may even throw together a quick kit and bring it with me camping. all depends on what TS issac decides to do in the next 24 hours.
blueoval92 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 ok well thanks to hurricane isaac and a new putty im useing i have been able to get much more done. one of the final rounds of putty, was more difficult to fill in the front fender section than i thought it would be had to add some filler pieces got it sanded down and noticed a spot on the front glued on the fender skirts, little small dimple but should be it then can start fitting the pan.
Modlbldr Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Nice work you are doing there. It's good to see that you are delving into new territory by customizing it. Adding those custom fronts and rears takes a lot of putty and sanding. I like that you decided to make your 61 a convertible. I always thought about building a 61 and adding the roof from the 60 on it. Keep at it and I'll be watching. BTW- How's the finger doing? Remember, it's not customizing till you draw blood. Later-
blueoval92 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 fingers all good and healed up, im lucky that i heal pretty quickly because i do stuff like that pretty often lol. thanks for the input. Despite the putty work i am enjoying the challenge of getting it all to look good. doing something like this that is new to me is refreshing and plan to do several more builds involving customizing like this.
blueoval92 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 well went to do some more work this morning only to find that my fender skirts are not gonna hold. the humidity last night caused the glue to crack and left chips missing from the primer. think im gonna just leave them off and fix what damage was done. still have to wait though because its way to humid to do anything. some parts i primed are still kind of wet. glue wont set right. its just a mess to do anything, definitely dont want to start spraying clear coat on my 49 merc thats for sure.
