modelmike Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I had an idea but not sure how to pull it off... I want to simulate a car under a car cover without there actually being a car under it.... i was thinking of useing some kind of thin cloth soaked in a mix of elmers glue and water.. but idk it it will release from the model after it dries... should i use some kind of release spray and if so what kind? i would thankful for any advice.....
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I've seem people use Pam cooking spray for a Q&D mold release with some types of fiberglass. It's worth an experiment. There are a lot of material-specific mold releases out there, but as Elmers is water based, some of the more common ones like poly-vinyl-alcohol (also water-soluble) won't work. Any silicone-based release will cause you devilish problems if you go to paint the body later. Just a thought....I've occasionally wrapped a small part in Saran Wrap to use as a release film for a one-shot deal. It would also keep the "car cover" material and glue from getting hung up on details and under drip-rails or in window openings.
modelmike Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 thanks....yeah i thought of PAM and even the plastic wrap i guess i will just have to "Just Do It"
cobraman Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I was just wondering if something like aluminum foil would work. You could mold it to a body and then remove it. Not sure how easy it would be to paint and it of coarse would crush or bend easy. Just a thought.
David G. Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I've seen a couple of tutorials on this website for simulating tarps over model cars. They recommend the use of plastic wrap over the car and paper towels or tissue painted or soaked with thinned white glue then placed over the car and allowed to dry. Hope this helps. David G.
