GTmodeler Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 hello everyone, im new to the forum, this is my first thread. im just starting to get into detailing my 1/24 models more, so i bought some PE seat belt kits to try. they both came with very average instructions. is there anyone out there who could either give me some tips or give me a link to a good tutorial. ive found lots about making belts from scratch but not how to put the pe kits together. just trying to get my head around i have probably made the mistake of getting very detailed 6 point harness kits to start with ! any advice would be greatly apreciated.
GTmodeler Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 i forgot to mention the brands are T2M tuner model factory and KA models
Foxer Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 here's some good advice .. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20866
GTmodeler Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 thanks foxer, ive worked most of it out now, one thing im still stuck on though is the quick release. the quick release buckle has various layers of washer like parts, i cant work out any mechancal way it will fix together so im guessing i need to glue it, but i dont want to start glueing things without knowing that its right. its all very confusing without good instructions. thanks in advance.
Pro Tech Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) Ben, I carry a photoetched racing harness set that come with textured belt material. The set is an original design made to make assembly very, very easy with realistic results. I put link at bottom, click onto part # PTMC 17. http://protechmodelparts.com/carpartscatalog.htm Charlie Pro Tech Edited August 13, 2012 by Pro Tech
High octane Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I use masking tape as seat belt material. I cut in wide enough to go through the photo-etched buckels and then thread it through and fold it over in the back. I then lay it on a piece of waxed paper and paint it the color I have chosen. When dry I peel them off and place them on the seats and I usually put a dab of epoxy under the buckle and also the other end of the belt so they NEVER come loose.
GTmodeler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Charlie, Thank you for your link. I'll be sure to look there next time. For now though I have 4 sets here and need to use them up. Yours look much easier.
vwdave92 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 the QR is something I always end up going to ref pictures to figure out. Google image is your friend. I've used masking tape and recently ribbon for belts. One trick I use all the time is to cut the very tip of the belt material to a point. Makes feeding it through the buckles MUCH easier and you typically fold it under or can cut it off. I recently picked up a clamp to hold the buckles. That helped ALOT too. For tools check the "beading" area of your local hobby store.
