Ramfins59 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Yeah, I like what Harry and Plowboy said. You can't force yourself to build... the inspiration and driving force within you has to surface all by itself. I just finished up 3 models and have been taking a break for a couple of days. After going full tilt on a couple I'll most likely do either a curbside or a slammer for some "instant gratification" and then I know that my "inner urge" will spark the fire to pick a subject out of the stockpiled herd and get serious with it. I've also been thumbing through some old issues of Street and Custom Rodder, Ol' Skool Rods, etc.., and looking around online for inspiration. I know it will come... it always does. Be patient.
eizzle Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Easy. Forget about it and go about your life. When the urge to build comes back (and it will), then build. In the meantime, don't worry about it. It's a hobby... it's supposed to be fun. You can't force fun. Exactly. I haven't logged serious bench time for awhile, but work has been busy, the wife is working more, and it seems like there is always something else that needs fixed/painted/destroyed/hauled to the dump. I've recently gotten back into the building frame of mind, but it's still been hard to get good desk time! Need to send the wife and kid on a Vacation without me
Bill Eh? Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 My solution, buy more models! Gaaa... I'm addicted!
Nick Winter Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Work on the 1:1 stuff, usually gives me idea's, or go to shows (1:1 and model) always inspiration out there, you jus gotta find it.
Lunajammer Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) Summer is always a slump for me. It's just too hard to shut my eyes to the long days, pleasant evenings the bicycle, motorcycle and all the outdoor things. Yet one day while killing time at work I found a canoe pattern online and scaled it. Next thing you know I'm all fired up scratch building some obscure and unpredictable project. Who knows where inspiration comes from? As mentioned above, don't force it, let it. Edited August 24, 2012 by Lunajammer
slusher Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Thanks so much some really good advice...
Jantrix Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 When I'm not in a building mood or have the time to dig into one it's time to start planning ahead. I have about 40 odd kits that are not parted out and I want to build. When building isn't convenient a planning session is in order. I grab a kit and hit the internet looking for ideas and inspiration. I open a desktop folder and all pics and other stuff go in there. Once I have my idea, I start planning the parts and paint. I go over the parts in the kit and see what I'm going to need. When you see me in the WANTED section (frequently lately), I'm looking for parts for a future build. At least this way, when you don't have the inclination or time to build, you are still involved in the hobby and for most of us a bolt of inspiration is all it takes to get the juices flowing again.
