Rick Schmidt Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Picked up the AMT Phantom today Come to find its a 76 here on the site but didn't find any answers to my other questions. First Question I have is its Accuracy in looks. Is the body Fairly accurate ?? It looks "right "to me but I'm not a van expert and these aren't too common around here. Second is wht scale is this thing ?? I set its body along side a diecast 04 which is supposed to be 24tth and most of the deminsions match up. Only real difference I see is the Wheelbase. And that Wheel base is my last question for now was there a van that short back in the 70s? or are my eyes playin tricks cause I'm looking at a new E series??
martinfan5 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Rick, I am not a vanspert , but I can tell the wheel base on this kit is correct, its a SWB( short wheel base ) version. That is the one thing stopping me from buying this kit, I dont like SWB vans, not to many commercial vans are SWB
slusher Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 l bought the van last week at hobby lobby and have not open mine yet....

Nick Winter Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Rick it's 1/25th like all AMT's and yes they had E150 Shorties. Nick
Guest Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Just bought this today myself. I didn't see anywhere on the box or instructions stating what year it is exactly. Ford vans had the same body for many years with only minor grille, interior/dash changes along that span. As far as looking accurate, the body looks to be very accurate to my eyes. But then, I'm no van expert either and haven't done any research on it yet. The only misgiving I have so far is those crappy old Good Year tires for the "Phantom" version. They're the Good Year 9.50-1200-15's and the 9.25-1000-15's that have the tread pattern too far down on the sidewalls and look more like a mud grip tire than a street tire. Those will go to the trash bin as per usual. The stock tires on the other hand, appear to be the newly tooled Good Year Polyglas Custom Wide Tread G-70-15's which are very nice. I just wish they had put their tampo printing on them. Especially since the lettering is the outline style and pretty much impossible to paint. Still, it's an old van kit that we haven't seen for ages and I'm glad to see it become available at an affordable price. I can't wait to get to building on mine!
crowe-t Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Does anyone know what the color options were available for the interiors in the 1976 Ford Econoline van? I think black, dark blue and tan were the options for '76. Maroon may have been an option in '77.
