2000-cvpi Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I went to Meijers today and saw that they are carrying Revell models again. This time they are on the shelves, not on a cardboard display. The prices were 12.99 to 14.99 for them. It looks like they are at the least giving models a chance at being a regular stocked item.
rmvw guy Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Great!!! I would take a "49 Merc, a '62 Impala and a '50 Ford pickup from what I see. I can't believe we just went there tonight! Wish I would have known. Thanks for passing that on.
Kris Morgan Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 This is good news. Thank you for the heads up.
Johnny K Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Interesting - I'll have to check the local one on my regular Hobby Lobby run Tuesday. It's right across the street.
forthlin Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 We're getting our first Meijers in this area. They're building it now & It's supposed to be open by next June. I"m hoping they carry models.
David G. Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Looks very much like the limited selection available at my local Michael's stores. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate any exposure this hobby can get, but I remember the golden age of the 70s when there dozens of kits stacked almost the entire length of an isle at K-Mart and Woolworth... *sigh* It's a start. They're actually BUILDING a new Meijer??? I figured it was only a matter of time before they started closing stores due to excessive loss of business to Walmart. We've got 2 Meijer stores here, I'll have to check em both out.

David G. I miss the days when every store carried a great selection. I remember when my LHS had a 30 foot long 5 tier shelf FULL of models. Now it's barely a 10 foot 4 tier and VERY bare.

David G. I remember K-mart is always where I wanted to go as a kid. Walmart had a pretty good selection back in the 70s as well. Still nothing within 100 miles of here that carry any kits of supplies.

The company was founded by Sam Walton in 1962, incorporated on October 31, 1969, and publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. The headquarters are in Bentonville, AR (not far from here).
eizzle Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 When I was building as a kid, mid to late eighties, I remember Walmart having a full aisle with models on both sides. You could also buy just about any of them for $8! Those were the good days, between Atari and Nintendo

Side note: I still have my old atari and it still works. hahahahahaha

Walmart, unlike the other big box retailers, didn't start out in the big cities (ala KMart, Zayre, Woolco, Shopper's World, EJ Korvette etc.), but rather as small town (think county seat towns in rural middle America) variety stores, eventually growing into small town discount department stores, then by the late 80's/early 90's moving into bigger cities, even the outskirts of major metropolitan areas. Chuck Most Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Not to be Mr. Negative here, but not all Meijer stores will be carrying them. It's a lot like Walmart's policy the last few years- seasonal inventory in select markets. Still never hurts to check, though!
