stevekouw Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I am going to build this "T" from the AMT reissue. My intentions are to build it as a traditional hot rod. This will be my first wip posted here so any comments and suggestions are appreciated. Edited September 25, 2012 by stevekouw
Dave Wood Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Thats a Great Kit I'll be watching this one.
bryan_m Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 nice project, cant wait to see more, gonna need a 3" scale top chop! cheers bryan
rmvw guy Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I will also say good choice, two of my all time favs. So many directions you can go on this. I'll be watching. Believe it or not I have been working on two of these today, original bodys from the '60s.
Gluhead Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Welcome aboard. I'll be watching...I love T's especially coupes.
cobraman Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I had that kit many, many years ago, might have to get another one.
Johnny K Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 One of the best kits out there for sheer potential. Looking forward to seeing another take on it.
stevekouw Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 I did a little mock up today and filled in the seam around the firewall/cowl. I am using wide white slicks in the back from the AMT parts pack instead of the slicks from the kit. Going to try for primer tonight or tomorrow am depending on weather. Thanks for following and if anyone has built one of these feel free to post pics on this topic for inspiration
GTMust Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I built this rat rod version a couple of years ago. Might give you a few ideas....... It's fun kit to build and I'll be watching your progress with interest. Hope my pics help......... Tony
stevekouw Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Very cool Tony! Did you chop it at all? Also wondering about the windshield. Did you have to modify it to open?
GTMust Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I didn't touch the body, but I Z'd the frame at the rear and modified the floor to fit. I cut openings in the bulkhead and the rear wheel arches so the body would sit lower in the chassis rails. It was a lot of trial and error! The windshield was a piece of clear styrene with a chrome edge made with BMF. It's just glued in the open position. Tony
stevekouw Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 Thanks for the tips Tony. I am going to focus on the engine this weekend and get that built up with plenty of detailing. I would like to prime the body/frame also weather permitting.
zaina Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 looks like you are off to a good start. here is a little inspiration.
stevekouw Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 deathskull59, I have to ask where did you get that pic for your avatar?
stevekouw Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 looks like you are off to a good start. here is a little inspiration. I really like how this one turned out too! You guys are giving me great inspiration, thanks!
RatRodMarc Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Nice rat rods ill be watching yours to nice start
stevekouw Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 I got a little bit done this weekend so far, but not nearly as much as I wanted to. Oh well i have the next few weeks off work so I can dedicate some good time to this build. Hoping to have it done by the 22nd for the kalamazoo IPMS show. It will be a first for me. pulleys cut apart stripped chrome from generator. I will be making a bracket so it won't be "floating" Making my own headers. This is the rough start. I will clean them up a bit And finally the body is in primer Thats all for now. I will have more done throughout the week.
Mr Dedo Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Can tell from your work bench you're a newbie. Welcome to the best adventure a person can have with a fistful of styrene in one hand and a tube of glue in the other! This is one of my favorite kits, plenty of opportunity to switch parts and really cool decals. Get the sister kit with the T bucket coupe.
stevekouw Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I got just a little bit more done. Body ready for its final coat of primer suspension and axle parts being de-chromed.. And here is a little mock-up just for fun. Engine block is painted gloss black.
bryan_m Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 lookin good! cant wait to see more of it. cheers bryan
stevekouw Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Finally got some paint on the body and frame. Body is Testors inca gold
